This place has been here for years. Always consistent and great tamales. The place is mom and pop and the other food is typical mexican, but the tamales are great.
Wonderful tamales. I take 6 dozen to our family reunion in Austin each year and everyone eagerly awaits my arrival with the tamales. The barbqued pork is wonderful too... In fact I've enjoyed everything I've eaten there. Go early for lunch because the place gets crowded. I love the new 2nd location for quick to-go orders.
This place is hailed as the best Mexican food in town by a few reviews but for the life of me I can't figure out why! Its not good at all. Anyone who has had Mexican food in San Antonio wouldn't go anywhere near this place!
Ordered tamales March 27, 2012, got order took home for dinner. Cut up tamales once peeled and cooked when I found a used staple mixed in the meat. Please don't eat here for your safety.
The tamales are awesome. They use the right ratio of beef to masa. The chips are not so great. The beef enchiladas are also really tasty. A local who took me said the line is out the door at times of people picking up tamales to go.
The outside has my Favorite "Dive-y" flair! It's hard to find a parking spot around noon! It's across from the old Texas Foundry complex. Oh.. and the FOOD IS FREAKISHLY GOOD!
