Get there early because this is great bbq even by Texas standards. If you leave hungry it's your own fault. Beef ribs, brisket (moist, lean, or burnt) and hot links are grilled at a large pit at the front of the restaurant. Sides include beans, potato salad, bread, pickles, onions and jalapenos on request. The service is friendly and prompt.... More

I have never been to the original, but I hear it is great. This one is no more than average in my opinion. People seem to flock to it, but we did not have a great experience or love the food. They also did not have any items that were child friendly or a kids menu. Maybe they have added... More

We came here around 7pm on Mother's Day, and since it was a beautiful day we wanted to sit outside. They had closed down the patio seating for the evening. So we waited about 20 minutes to sit inside. Wasn't worth the wait imo. The food was ehhh. The meat was flavorful but dry (we all had pulled pork and... More

Everyone has a particular taste and preference for BBQ, so I'm sure Salt Lick won't be everyone's favorite, but they are undeniably good. It's meat, not pork BBQ. I found the brisket to be good, the burnt ends to be quite good, and the ribs to be great as well. Sausage, sauces and sides were tasty as well. Service was... More

The Salt Lick (BBQ) is arguably the best BBQ in Texas. Nestled just south of Austin city limits in the heartland of Texas the Salt Lick estate is a welcoming site. No matter when you arrive the general wait time is an hour, luckily there are tables under the trees with live music and fresh lemonade and popcorn to those... More

This food was soooo good you'll dream about it. Sides aren't that great but you aren't going for the sides you are going for the meat. The cooks will let you tack a pic in front of the huge pit if you ask nicely

Melt in your mouth brisket; Perfectly smoked turkey. I wasn't overly fond of the baked beans but I am not a bean lover. You have to try the cobbler. Even if you have to get it to go it is amazing.

Whenever I travel through central Texas, I always make it a point to stop in Round Rock just to visit the Salt Lick. I saw it for the first time on television (Man vs. Food I believe) and thought it looked awesome...About a year later I just happened to be driving through and decided to stop there on a whim.... I know people come for the meat, but the salad is just as tasty. I added brisket to mine with ranch. Yummy!

my fiance and i go here often. it's fun and the bbq is excellent. always busy though, so be prepared to either BYOB or head over to the wine area (they also sell beer here now) and chill out while waiting to be seated.
