This joint is a good find and serves high quality sushi for dinner. A little more expensive but it doesn't break the bank.
There is a fish market behind the dolphin that has the best fish on the island. They make very large sushi rolls: ahi, snow crab, spicy tuna and marlin/crab. They are the bomb, get a papaya at the truck and great meal for two. It some of the best ahi I have ever had...period.
We ate there this past weekend and will never go back. One hour and forty five minutes start to finish and I got my meal at the hour and a half mark. We were seated after a twenty minute wait and then waited 10-15 more minutes to receive our drinks. I can say that the edamame they brought while we... More
We ate at the Dolphin twice. The first time in the regualr restaurant. The food was good but we weren't overwhelmed with the menu. I ordered the ahi and asked that it be seared. It arrived barely medium rare. The waiter returned the ahi to the kitchen and brought me a freshly seared piece of tuna that was delicious. Service... More
Our party of 6 was hungry for some good fish and we definitely found it here. Service was exceptional and we had a short wait for a table. It's a bit pricey (about $42/person with tip and no drinks) but you get what you pay for.
We actually stopped here during a kayak ride up the Hanalei River. There is a small docking area we parked the canoe and enjoyed a nice lunch on the outdoor grass seating area. The Ahi was excellent and good environment for food.
My husband had the shrimp tacos and concurs they were top notch. We sat at the tables on the lawn and watched the kayakers go by. One couple even pulled their kayak up on the lawn and had lunch. Meal included two large tacos with greens, plus equally fresh salsa and guacamole. I would get these again in a minute.... More
Our "Ultimate guidebook" warned it could be good or bad. We took a chance. It was very good. We had braved hiking the Na Pali trail. We were ready for lunch. We sat on the lanai although the tables by the river looked inviting. I had the fresh Ahi blackened on a sandwich and my friend had the fresh Marlin... More
The fresh fish is excellent and amazing blackened. They don't take reservations so plan on waiting but it is worth it. We have been back here several times and always have an amazing meal and great service. My only downside is that the bartender recommended a sushi roll and we ordered it without asking the price. Since most other rolls... More
My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon in Hawaii and this was by far our favorite sushi restaurant- and we ate sushi almost every other day over the course of two weeks! Their Hanalei roll was our favorite, and we also tried an omikasa roll (I think meaning "trust" in Hawaiian?). The chef made us a phenomenal roll... More
