It is really small, maybe 10 tables, and there are no reservations. Besides the door, write your name on the board and sit on the street bench until called. It's worth the wait. Reasonably priced amazing seafood and oysters. Great atmosphere for couples.

Went to anchor on a recommendation from a friend. Well worth it. There are no reservations and a sign up board. Got there at 6:45 seated by 8:15. There is a small bar and about 4 tables. Raw oysters were good. Only had local small craft beers. The gem was the ciopinno that was off menu. Absolutely amazing. Clams, mussels,... More

Just write your name on the board nest to the entrance and sit on the street bench. It's worth the wait. Reasonably priced amazing seafood and different types of oysters. It's clean, it's cosy, the atmosphere and the food just puts a smile on your face. Can't wait to come back!

I've been here times in the past & always had excellent food & service! Great place to take family members visiting in town. A little upscale in atmosphere & price, but very worth it. Excellent seafood & fish dishes.

We were waiting for one and half an hour to be seated. But the food there worth waiting. The shellfish combination is great. Same as the anchor special( oyster/prwan/ clam). And the oyster shooter is nice and tastey.

My wife and I enjoy local eateries high on quality and low on pretentiousness. That's exactly what you get here. We arrived at 7:27, signed the board, went down the block for a bevy, returned at 8:15 and were seated within 5 min. We were in the end two seats at the bar, where we enjoyed watching the chefs prepare... More

I always try to have at least one meal at the Anchor Oyster Bar when I'm in San Francisco. The waits can be long, especially for large parties since the venue is so small, but the seafood is fresh and well prepared. I inevitably seem to order the cioppino, which isn't on the menu but is available. It's a huge... More

Anchor Oyster Bar enjoys a solid reputation among locals who come to this tiny place in the Castro, put their names on the clipboard outside, and wait for a table. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by two self-aborbed women who occupied a table for four for almost three hours even though they could see many waiting to get in! By... More

We tried the Anchor restaurant in the Castro district after a recommendation of a local - we found a very good seafood resturant, exceptionally good value, and if you are wise come early, write your name on the outside blackboard around 5.30pm, go shopping in Castro Street, and come back regularly to check the progress of your "name". We found... More

It's a nice cosy place just a few minutes walk from the streetcar station. Place is very clean and the service was very good. I had the crab burger that came with a cup of clam chowder. The chowder is less thick then most chowder that I have had in the past and I actually prefer it that way. Nice... More
