Our global group is in Philly for a big conference, in the group are a Parisian, Swede, Japanese, Sigapore and American expat who lives in Germany. Lots of diversity in culture and palate, theoretically difficult to find a place that pleases everyone - that is until we found the Sampan. Wow! A focused menu with lots of freshly prepared foods... This is a popular, high energy restaurant. The food was fresh, flavorable, and served hot! Good selections for wine, beer and cocktails. Only negative was noise level (not for intimate conversations).

I was visiting Philadelphia for a conference and just randomly found this restaurant on Yelp. Beautiful interior and if you like to eat more casually you can sit around the kitchen and watch them cook. This is what we did and I highly recommend it! The happy hour is a really good deal. They have very reasonable prices and the... More

Stopped by for a pre-dinner snack. Surprisingly inexpensive $2, $3, or $4 "small" plates were large and chock full of bold flavors. Place had a good vibe as well.

Was recommended by a friend who lives in Philly. Had a great meal there. Lots of tapas type of dishes, Asian fusion, to try. Good atmosphere. Good service. Good food.

Asian restaurant in the heart of the city. Nice place esthetically. Our server was very energetic, knowledgeable and attentive. She suggested the "Chefs Tasting" which we (a party of 6) felt was a good idea as it allowed us to "sample" 9 different dishes. At a price of $45 dollars it was reasonable for a big city restaurant. None of us... More

I was really looking forward to eating at Sampan on a recent family trip to Philly. We had a table of 6 and made reservations days earlier. We were seated right away with no problems. Our waitress was energetic and cheerful, as well as very informative. We decided to do the chefs tasting and were able to pick 9 choices... More

The selection of dishes was very interesting, and not typical Asian restaurant fare. Every dish was very well prepared and seasoned, and the meal was excellent. Atmosphere is modern, with changing color walls. Restaurant was not too loud - you actually could have a conversation with your tablemate without yelling. Price was more to the high end - I would... I'm not a huge fan of pan-ethnic cuisine and there was also the thumping of a generic beat that made it hard to hear conversation even one person away...Pad Thai was good, a crab taco was great...watch out for spicy which can appear here and there suddenly...If a group was going I'd go back, but not rushing over Open Table... I love this restaurant! The food is spectacular and the ambiance energetic! The food is meant to be shared and the best way to do this is by ordering their seven course tasting menu where you get one selection from each of their menu sections. They also have a great bar in front of the kitchen where you can eat.... More
