Description: Gertrude's Restaurant, located inside the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA), is where John Shields celebrates Chesapeake cuisine using local foods, in a warm and stylish setting. Chef & owner John Shields, a Baltimore native who is a cookbook author and television cooking show host, named the restaurant after his grandmother, Gertrude Cleary, who taught him to cook as a child. Gertrude's dishes up a sophisticated regional menu of Chesapeake foods and traditions for lunch, dinner, and brunch using local, organic ingredients whenever possible. The restaurant's interior, inspired by life on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, is beautiful & elegant yet comfortable. The wall of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the museum’s Sculpture Garden floods the open & airy dining room with natural light. During the warmer months, additional seats are available on the terrace surrounding a fountain and reflecting pool.

The charming and delicious restaurant in the Baltimore Museum of Art. Surprisingly large and varied menu. The drinks were excellent (Mimosa) and non-alcoholic rosemary lemon drink. Caesar salad was fine with home made dressing. Cream of crab soup was velvety and luxurious. Crabettes delicious. Desserts also wonderful. Highly recommended. Get a reservation. It's always full it seems!

Best location, food, service for Sunday brunch or lunch! I was glad that I made reservation at 12:45pm that morning since when we arrived, the couple before us were told that the earliest available table was at 2pm. We sat outdoor with waterfall and nice sculpture garden view. The indoor had jazz live music playing. Either will be appealing. Food... More

Went there as part of a fundraiser. Most places just give 5 or 10 percent of proceeds, but Gertrude's is serious about helping the community. We not only enjoyed excellent food in a beautiful museum and sculpture garden atmosphere, but they donated a full 30% to help the cause I was supporting.

While in town for a conference, my husband and I treated ourselves to a nice dinner at Gertrude's. I made reservations online for 5:45 through Opentable (and it was difficult to get a table, so definitely book online). Parking was $4. I started with their cocktail called Rosemary's Lady (their homemade rosemary lemon soda and vodka). It was tasty, but... More

Gertrude's has a great location in the Baltimore Museum of Art and a lovely ambiance. The service is also very well done. It's a great place of deserts! Rich, decadent and a variety of taste that can tempt even the most dedicated calorie watcher. I wish I could say the same about the appetizers and main course. The food was... More

We had an unexpectedly good evening dining in the sculpture garden. Sipping cocktails, eating great food and receiving excellent service. Their fish is fresh, the chicken corn fritters are magic, and the soups are delicious. We will be back!

During a convention in Baltimore, we had dinner here. Located in the Art Museum overlooking the sculpture garden, the restaurant has a nice ambiance and friendly, helpful staff. We enjoyed the food and the wines by the glass are moderately priced. Our only complaint is that the hard surfaces in the restaurant make it quite noisy. If you are in... More

We booked this restaurant far in advance for lunch/brunch after my daughter's graduation from Johns Hopkins. We had a large party of twelve, and we did not all arrive at the same time, but the waiter was cheerful and accommodating, taking drink orders as people arrived. All our entrees were excellent and served very hot, even though the restaurant was... More

My husband and I just enjoyed a great dinner at Gertrude's. It is a lovely restaurant located in the sculpture gardens, Baltimore Museum of Art. The setting and ambience are lovely, the staff is very attentive and the food is delicious. My husband really enjoyed his crab cake and I had a wonderful local fish entree. We both would return...
