We had a wonderful dinner at Mamma Luisa restaurant. Every course was excellent. I felt like I was eating at a restaurant in Italy - so authentic. Loved the proscuitto appetizer and my Seafood pasta entree was delicious and oh so fresh tasting!

Mama Luisa’s is down the far end of Thames St. However, that did not deter crowds. This very popular restaurant is an old house converted into a restaurant with separate cozy dining rooms on two floors.
When we arrived, we were disappointed when told that they had no availability and unfortunately we did not have a reservation (highly recommended). However,...

My Husband and I just returned from a weekend in Newport. We had dinner on Friday evening at Mamma Luisa. The menu is simple yet sophisticated with all the essential Italian classics. We started with the antipasto for two which was plentiful and fresh. I had Penne Del Pastore which was cooked perfectly al dente. My Husband had the Spaghetti...

We were searching for desserts because we just completed a terrible dinner at another resturant. The desserts were absolutely delicious. The service was great.
We are regular visitors to Newport, and we always go to Mamma Luisa's for a terrific Italian dinner. The place is lovely, with attentive, professional servers, and a menu that includes fine dining options including veal, chicken, beef, pork, fish, etc. In our opinion, however, it is the fresh pastas that are the stars here. In particular, the Tagliatelle Bolognese...

The wife and I had an excellent dinner. Service was great. The food was excellent with a plentiful serving. When I heard that the chef came from Bologna Italy, I had to order the Pasta Bolognese. It was melt in your mouth excellent. My wife had a pasta special that had sausage and brocclie rabe in a cream sauce. The...

We had dinner in this cozy little restaurant this week. Although it was Thursday it was not busy. I guess it must be because of the time of year. We were given a choice of tables so we pick a small table in the opposite corner from the only other table with patrons. We began with a bottle of wine...

No matter where we go on vacation, we always try to eat Italian one night. We have been to Newport 3 times. The first year we tried Sardella's. We liked it, but it was nothing special. The next year we tried Mamma Luisa, needless to say we returned this year. The setting inside of an old house is very quaint,...

If you want an excellent Italian dinner this is where to eat! We enjoyed everything we ordered. On the weekend call for a reservation.
Mamma Luisa's is a Newport institution beloved by locals and visitors alike. Set in an old multi-story house, it feels like a visit to grandma's house with luscious aromas greeting you at the door. The food is well-prepared, a broad selection of wines (favoring Italian of course) are offered, and desserts are satisfying. The menu includes a vegetarian listing. This...
