"A lovely small restaurant located just around the corner from our hotel (the Continental) and the Columbus monument (pictured, worth a short walk to see). We ventured out in search of a simple, no-fuss traditional eatery for a nice informal meal; which is precisely what we got here.
We walked in..." at about 7, which is pretty early for an Italian dinner and we were the first diners to arrive. A genuinely warm welcome from the small staff helped us feel immediately at home. There was an English menu board outside, and the chef - herself an English speaker - translated and explained the straightforward menu to us.
I began by sampling the local speciality Trenette Pasta (pesto, which has its origins in Genoa, served through a thin, spaghetti-like pasta); simple, but very tasty. Others enjoyed a Mussel and Clam risotto, and a cheese & pepper pasta for starters.

"This is an authentic trattoria (tavern) with paper placemats, house' wine and the like.
The ambience is very caratheristic and nice.
As for the menu, there are 5 or 6 first courses and 5 / 6 second courses (maily fish) to choose from. No appetizer.
Food was very nice and tasty, with decent porti..."ons (not too much, not too poor).
As for dessert, I took the "torta della nonna" (grandma's cake), but it was not worth it. I would simply skip desserts.
Every first course costs you 9 euro, every second course 12 euros. You won't pay for water, although there is a charge for coperto ("table setup").
The bill was fine (28 euro per person).
Would revisit again.

"We went to Ugo's as it was recommended in the Lonely Planet book. It was very lively in a sort of spit and saw dust way. The food was very rustic but delicious, and out of all the places we went to in Italy (many) it was the only one which served Peroni Beer, yippee. It was all very reasonably price..."d and worth a visit for an authentic experience.
