"OK as a venue, but not that great. Streetside, open front building is dressed up with excellent decor, napery and nice glassware to upgrade to a restaurant feel, however still feels mainstreet cafe, especially with buses coming and going and the community centre next door. A wander off to the toilet..."s behind the bar next door is a bit of adventure, but not one I'd rate well for an aspirational restaurant. I'd call Samuel's aspirational in trying to be a top local restaurant when it is still trying to impress as more than a busy and very nice cafe
Nothing wrong with a dressy cafe vibe but pricing here is aimed squarely at mid range restaurant market and could only be justified with excellence in food and service.
Service was stylish and knowledgeable but a bit slow [maybe the kitchen was understaffed?]
Food was quality but serving size just adequate at the price, a more generous serving would have left our friends feeling better disposed towards the experience..

"My friends and I are regular diners at Sydney and Melbourne restaurants.
Many times over the past few months we have dined at Flanagans. On every occasion we have been extremely impressed by the exquisite preparation and presentation of virtually every dish. The restaurant has never failed in maint..."aining the highest of standards of fresh food and service. The food is Modern Australian and Seafood. It's imaginative and it delivers on taste and elegance. The waiters are helpful and friendly, and they really know their stuff. They all seem to have that lovely balance of being relaxed, yet respectful.
The wine list is exceptional for a restaurant in a regional centre.
If this restaurant was in Sydney or Melbourne it would give the leading restaurants in those cities a real run for their money. If you come to Thirroul, don't miss this landmark institution.

"My family has dined twice in recent weeks at Flannagans, both times enjoying Saturday night's degustation menu. The food is interesting, well prepared and cooked and beautifully presented. You would be hard pressed to find food of this standard at such a lovely location (you are almost on the b..."each) for this price. The staff were helpful and very pleasant and our waitress immediately after seating us remembered to ask which one of our group could not eat nuts (I had mentioned this when booking). Another plus is there is heaps of parking available very close to Flannagans. It is a relaxed venue as you would expect being by the ocean and, yes, on very busy nights, it can be a little noisy but this is a common experience in busy and popular eateries. We will certainly be eating at Flannagans again and will be in to try their lunch menu soon.
