"On a recent trip to Joliet we needed a place to meet for lunch. Mexican *always* hits the spot with us and we've driven by La MEX several times, so we thought we'd take the opportunity to check it out. (There are many, many tows in the country whose only business we've visited is the local Mexican ..."restaurant.) La MEX is a local (4-restaurant) chain in Central Illinos.
First off, this place is deceivingly large. From the outside it looks large-ish. The inside IS LARGE. The tables are split into areas of small groups, each offering better privacy than your average open-air seating restaurant. The atmosphere is authentic, the walls painted in yellows and oranges, and the decor decidedly Mexican with your typical array of sombreros, donkeys, cactus, and sun/moon images.
The chips are fresh and hot. I always want to try a restaurant's hot salsa. Some are mild, some are spicy, some are friggin' HOT. This falls in the latter category...I'll be nice and call it Very Noticeably H...

"I really enjoy Syl's for the French Fried Lobster! The lobster is taken out of the shell, lightly battered, and fried. It is served with a salad and a starch. Be sure to order your salad dressing on the side, as it tends to be overdressed. The double baked potatoes are very good, served with butter ..."and sour cream on the side. I have only ordered the lobster here, but my family says the steaks are also great! Fish fry Friday's are also a great deal-better quality than the typical fish fry places at around the same price. Service is quick and friendly. The building and decor may be outdated, but I can overlook that for a quality meal and good service!

"Finding Barolo in Joliet was a delight! When I moved here, I was so dissapointed in the lack of great food in restaurants and the mediocrity I experienced. Not any more, thankfully, I, now, frequently dine at Barolo. The food is art for all your senses and it is served by a staff that is excite..."d about serving their products. It's impossible to say what is my favorite dish. Last week I enjoyed a daily special, homemade Chilean Sea Bass ravioli in fradiavolo sauce that was magnificent! The Bone in Ribeye Steak is tantalizing with a sauce that was pure magic. The sauces on any recipe are amaaaaazing. Remember to save room for dessert, if you can with such large portions, there is a pastry chef here!
