  "To those who want to a great Up North experience, stay at the Cascade Lodge. My family members and I truly enjoyed our stay the weekend of May 10, 2013. A few family members stayed in Cabin 9, and the rest of us stayed in Cabin 14. Both cabins were extremely clean, and very comfortable. Ca..."bin No. 14 is truly an Up North experience, with the windows facing away from any other cabins, the large deck over looking the rushing river and the cabin is located in an area so that you do not feel like you are right on top of any of the other cabins. The grounds of the Lodge are kept up, and my grandnieces and grandnephew enjoyed the playground. The drive to Grand Portage to see the falls (located on the U.S./Canadian border) is only one hour away. The drive from the lodge to the falls is scenic, and we stopped in Grand Marais to enjoy some shopping.   "We had breakfast here one morning while in the area. It is a very small place with only 6 tables that I could see. Fortunately someone left so we got to sit down. The place has been there for many years and still holds that old time charm. The menu is not huge but does have something for everyon..."e. And the food was good. Nice sized portions and good just like at home. The coffee is by the counter and you need to get up and serve yourself but I found that part of the charm. The baked goods looked wonderful but they did not fit into my diet. There is a small amount of groceries here also. The women that work there treat you as though you are family.
