Delayed/Cancelled flight BA0275 LHR/LAS 5th May

Hi,

I was hoping if someone can answer my questions?

I had a trip today:

EDI/LHR flight was delayed and landed 1hr and 3 mins late...I managed to haul it to my connecting flight and got comfortable in WTP!

Now the flight was delayed due to a fuel spillage due to the weather? Not sure what happened there..we sat for around an hour before they decided to get another aircraft to continue the journey at 9.05pm.. We went out got a £5 refreshment voucher and sat for around an hour and got a notification that the flight was changing to an overnight..and will not depart until 1300 on the 6th of May.

BA have been pretty good at keeping us updated, provided vouchers for a hotel for the night, meal vouchers for dinner and breakfast and shuttle vouchers.

The letter provided advises due to technical faults...what I want to know is should I be claiming my travel insurance or the EU compensation..they did provide a leaflet in relation to this but wouldn't confirm which would apply...is it a delay or cancellation?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide! :)

If you were delayed due to a technical issue then you are most likely due EU compensation. Looks like it's delayed, not cancelled, although for purposes of EU compensation that's really irrelevant at this point.

What would you claim on your travel insurance? It appears you were provided accommodation, meal vouchers etc?

It depends on what you are looking to claim.

Your out of pocket expenses for Las Vegas would be claimable from your travel insurance, although the fact you were provided a free hotel at Heathrow may count against that. But other incidentals (pre-booked tours, show tickets, etc) are still out of pocket.

EU261 compensation is a fixed sum (and €600 each is a large sum) and is claimable regardless of out of pocket expenses.

Whether your insurance company would require that you claim for EU261 and use that as a deductable I don't know. I haven't heard of that happening, but I wouldn't be altogether surprised if some company did do that.

Oh I'm not worried about out of pocket expenses as you are correct the airline looked after me, and they have been great so far, I understand these things happen and as long as I get on a flight that's the main thing! :)

I was just unsure whether it would fall under the EU regulations claim as I read on another thread that it was depended on the circumstances.

Thanks for the reply! :)

Thanks for your reply.

I'm fortunate to be staying with friends this week and don't have a hotel booked till next week, so no issues there! I have a show booked for Thursday night which also should be fine!!

Thanks again for getting back to me, I will touch base with the insurance to confirm if I just fill in the claim form directly with BA.

It has nothing to do with your insurance so no need to go through them first.

Hi,

I just thought I'd follow up to say I submitted my claim to BA which was received on the Tuesday..a response by the Friday and confirmation of bank transfer by the Monday for the EU compensation..

Very prompt follow up with Ba who handled it very efficiently from the outset!! :)
