We've had a question on the Atlanta forum that I thought should be kicked up to you Air Travel experts. The OP is flying from somewhere in the UK to Nashville via Atlanta. She has been given the impression by Virgin that her 58 minute connection in Atlanta is sufficient, and believes that she will not have to reclaim/recheck bags during the customs process in Atlanta because Virgin has told her the following:
"Apparently as we are booked on a 'through' ticket, so the same ticket rather than separate flight tickets, once we check our bags in at Manchester,UK, we won't see them again until Nashville as the bags are automatically transferred. Apparently its an agreement Virgin have with Delta (their sister company), they have stressed that because of this we will have plenty of time. I have stressed that there is only 58 minutes on the return journey (so even less than the outward) but they say that this is ok."
I've advised that no, she absolutely has to go through customs & immigration in Atlanta because it is her first point of arrival in the US. I think that this is not enough time to connect and she should push for a later flight to Nashville. Am I missing something?
Thanks for the input!!
