This place is in the stix but that is why I chose it. The rooms are clean & spacious. Good hot shower. The decor is very tasteful. The staff are attentive & the breakfast overlooking the paddy fields is fantastic. The pool is sparkling & very relaxing on a hot hummid evening. There is an extensive DVD collection to watch if the rain is pouring down outside or if kids are bored.
The staff looked after me with my special vegetarian diet, for the evening meal at the restaurant. The only draw back is u have to eat at the Villa as there is nowhere else around!!!!
Free transport to near by Temple & free guided walk thro' rice paddies included in your stay.

Room tip: villa @ end with exrta window to garden is good

Balam Bali is a great place to explore central Bali. We stayed there for seven days and we had almost no time to relax and sit at the beautiful designed pool, because there's so much to see. Yes, it's true, that it is pretty far away from other tourist areas, but that was something that we wanted. If you're prepared to travel around a little more than it's no problem at all.
We stayed in Jaipur room near the pool. The room is good and the beds are nice.
Biggest plusses, besides the quiet and relaxed environment, are obviously the staff. They will help you with everything that you want :). Next to that, the food is worth mentioning. Balam Bali serves a three course meal for a very reasonable price and everyday was a little party for us because the food is so good. Great!

We were unfortunately disappointed with Balam Bali, especially considering the views. I think it would be a great place to go with the family however for a young couple is was very isolated. If I was to stay again I definitely would not stay in the House of Pirates since the bathrooms are not clean, the rooms are dark, there is no hot water and the electricity goes on and off during the night. For the amount you paying you expect hot water!
We enjoyed meeting a lovely member of staff who was 16 and wanted to practice English. However the general lack of English spoken was quite frustrating at times.

We were curious if Balam Villa could live up to its billing as a low-key, reasonably priced villa offering elegance and serenity in the rice paddies and to its rave reviews (# 1 on Trip Advisor). It did!! It is an absolutely wonderful B&B experience, made all the more so by the co-owner Hubert and his dedicated staff. It fully deserves its top rating. It was a magical four days.

Our room - the Siam room - is lovely: spacious, tastefully furnished, immaculately clean, and has a beautiful view over the pool and rice paddies beyond. Dinner is a preset menu, but always gourmet. My wife has certain dietary requirements that place certain ingredients off limits, yet the staff easily worked around that, always serving up the same or similar dish but with substitute ingredients. Their homemade vanilla ice cream was the best we have ever had, anywhere.

The service was not only superb but was further given the personal touch by Hubert. A professional mineralogist and museum curator, Hubert enthusiastically briefed us on the details, history, and culture of Bali. He recommended a visit to the absolutely beautiful village of Penglipuran, which turned out to be a real highlight. It is a true time-warp to the Bali of old. Hubert also arranged for us to view a Brahmin cremation ceremony, a unique experience not on the beaten tourist path. Hubert personally took us on two separate treks through rice paddies and jungle, pointing out flora and village custom. It doesn’t get any better than that! Not only will we go back, but we will stay even longer the next time.

I am so happy and lucky to find this lovely Villa near Ubud.

The building is simply solemn and gorgeous; the staff are super sweet and attentive.
The owner is very knowledgeable about Balinese culture and always ready to share with you! Highly recommended to enjoy the beauty of Ubud and Balinese culture!
