This hotel does everything it's supposed to do...it's comfortable, good service, and everything works well. It's in a quiter area of Shinjuku, but there is a free shuttle to the train station and the subway is just underneath. Your best bet to arrive here is via the Airport Limousine Bus from Narita. It's 3,000 yen each way, and takes about 1 hour 20 minutes depending on traffic. You buy the ticket right as you exit Customs, and the bus leaves just outside the exit door. They will bring you right to the front door of the Hyatt, so if you have luggage, this is your best option to prevent schlepping on a train.
This is a good hotel if you are on business, but for a holiday, I have a few caveats:
There isn't much to do around the hotel, the heart of Shinjuku is about a 20 minute walk.
The gym is underwhelming. It's about 400 square feet, with a couple of machines and a few treadmills.Don't worry about eating too much in Tokyo, because if you carry dollars you won't be able to afford anything!
The hotel bar is BORING! It's stuffy and dark, and there's nothing going on. You might as well grab a few beers at the conveniece store downstairs and watch CNN in your room!
Standard rooms are small, but cozy. The toilet is a little weird, sort of like a bidet/toilet combination.
Breakfast options are minimal, and you almost have to go with the hotel buffett, which is ok but a bit pricey.
Staying at this Hyatt really requires a taxi or subway ride anytime you want to ramble about. If you want a little more of a vibe, I recommend you consider staying in either Ginza or Roppongi.
