“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2011

We stayed here in June with our 2 kids (age 11& 13). It is a beautiful b&b in the countryside that is close to all of the Normandie sites. We had the Amarapura room, which did not disappoint. It has two separate rooms with a separate bath, shower and toilet. The rooms have outstanding decor. The owners are delightful people who serve an excellent breakfast with a smile and provide great advice for the day. We highly recommend staying here.

“Fantastic Place To Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

The hosts were exceptionally helpful and very nice. We stayed in the family suite, which was fantastic...very clean, modern and comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and they were quite flexible about the times. Tons of great places to eat in Bayeux, which has an adorable ancient town center and all the things you need like groceries and shopping. Very pleased with this B&B. Great place to stay. Don't miss the Bayeux Tapestry and the DDay Beaches.

“Stay here if you're visiting Omaha and other D-Day beaches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2009

A charming and very authentic bed and breakfast in Normandy near the D-Day beaches. It's a restored farmhouse with all the modern comforts, like nice modern bathtubs and good heating. The hosts (who speak good English) are very gracious -- they also do dinners if you feel like staying in. It's in a little corner of rural paradise, with pastures, cows, fresh air and peace and quiet. There are other b and bs closer to the beaches, perhaps, but the setting isn't as bucolic and relaxing. Inside, the decor is very charming and cozy -- there's also a corner room with a fireplace. It seems like a nice place to stay with kids -- there's a jungle gym and plenty of grass to run around in, and cows roam around the neighboring field. If you want to stay a full week (or a weekend off-season) there are 'gites' - self-catering cottages.

“Wonderful place and wonderful people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 March 2009

We stayed in the family suite, which contains 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is ideal if you travel with friends or family. It was quiet, peaceful, clean and the decoration, inspired by our hosts' trips to Asia was just great. We had a wonderful time, and the hosts are so nice, you can really see they love their jobs, they are really welcoming and no need to say the food was delicious (breakfast with croissants and fresh bread, homemade jam, homemade cake and homemade yogurt). Everything was just perfect. I highly recommend Les Chaufourniers.

“Rural paradise outside Bayeux”

We stayed at Les Chaufourniers during a weekend getaway from Paris. I have stayed in many B&Bs all over France, and I must say that this is one of the best. Florence and Dominique bought the old farmhouse three years ago and renovated it with exquisite taste - warm colors, beautiful fabrics, and extraordinary attention to detail. I suppose this is not a surprise given that Florence ran a hotel before opening the B&B, and Dominique was a professional gardner - there are flowers all over the property, including some of the most beautiful roses I have even seen.
At Les Chaufourners, one has the option of staying in the main house or renting one of the "gîtes" on the property, which can be rented for a week or more. These latter are in a separate, completely renovated old farm building, and are complete with their own kitchens and terraces. There is also a badminton net, two courts for playing boules, and a play structure for children.
At the main house, we decided to take advantage of the "table d'hôtes" one evening and dine at the B&B. Florence put together a delicious dinner using local products, including a zucchini and pont l'eveque chese tart, white fish with a cider cream sauce, a sampling of delicious regional cheeses and an apple tart for dessert. We enjoyed chatting with two other couples who were also staying at the B&B, and Dominique made sure all our wine glasses remained filled. :)
I recommend Les Chaufourniers without hesitation to anyone travelling to this area. It is about a 5-10 minute drive from Bayeux and a wonderful way to experience this beautiful area of France.

  • Liked — The style - completely renovated and exquisitely decorated, but still with country charm
