Stayed for 5 nights with my fiancé in a 'love' room (upgraded from Wow).
Location
Up in the hills well above the treeline so you get some fantastic sea views, while also benefiting from being slightly cooler. There are no beaches within walking distance, but the resort offers a regular shuttle service to two of them.
We didn't hire any mopeds but for those who might it's worth noting the roads can be quite steep in places. It didn't rain while we were there but could imagine it being quite treacherous at night.
Room
Spacious, well appointed and clean. The bed was very comfortable and they offer a selection of pillows. The aircon cools the room fairly quickly and on quiet mode it didn't interupt sleep.
The room I was in (think it was 162) didn't seem to have any wifi but there was a media centre with web browser and a keyboard (no office tools, but they do have laptops in the reception which the kindly let me use to check in online for our flights and print e-boarding passes). We didn't watch any films but there was a large selection available as well as a folder for music (all free to access).
The shower was great although I noticed there were intermittent pressure changes and if someone uses hot water from the sink tap the shower water cools significantly.
On the balcony there is a sea view, a hottub and a large bean bag type lounger. We liked the idea of the hottub but found the pump too noisy to really enjoy, perhaps it was just more noticible as the resort itself is very peaceful and our room was at the same level of the swimming pool.
My only thing that really bothered me about the room was the lock, it was rusting and sometimes took a few tries.
Amenities
A big draw is the infinity pool, which offers great views. Quiet in the mornings and deserted when it starts to get dark, which worked for us as weren't around during the day.
As mentioned earlier, the resort is not located near the beach but there is a free shuttle service provided. While I wouldn't call it frequent it is regular and was fairly punctual.
The schedule as of Feb 2012 is as follows:
Fisherman's village (10 to 15mins away)
Departs resort
10:00, 14:00, 16:00, 20:00
Returns to resort
14:15, 16:15, 20:15
Chaweng (25 to 30 mins away)
Departs resort
11:00, 15:00, 17:00, 21:00
Returns to resort
15:30, 17:30, 21:30
There is if course a taxi service available, the fares (THB) were:
Bophut 300
Chaweng 500
Bagkrak 400
Cheong Mon 500
Lamai 700
Nathon 900
I personally think these prices are reasonable, given that a taxi outside the resort would often quote a similar or even higher amount and would only be negotiated to a slightly lower amount. In addition, the 'metered' signs on the taxis are purely ornamental, I wasn't able to get a single driver to turn them on.
Food
The breakfast was very good but entirely western, being a selection of fresh breads, pastries, cerials, yogurt, fruit, eggs made to order, bacon and sausages (usual mini hotdogs), etc. There is also the option to have a pancake which were tasty, but its more like a dessert than a short stack.
Service
Great as you would expect, everyone is genuinely polite and very helpful. Cant really fault them, there were a couple of linguistic moments but mostly cleared up by speaking a little slower.
Overall
A great resort to relax in and would definitely recommend. It's isolation makes a great place to get away from it all while the shuttle service provides access to the more commercial areas. If you can live with shuttle schedule and the associated extra journey time the resort could be used as a good base for more chilled exploring, although for those wanting to see as much as possible in couple of days or have a focus on nightlife the location may prove inconvenient.
There are a few niggles but given the outstanding value the resort currently offers I couldn't bring myself to knock off a star.
