This is a difficult review for me to write as our experience was so extreme, but as a regular user of Trip Advisor, I like to contribute honestly as I use this site to make important holiday decisions and I know others do.
We booked a sea view pool villa and the rooms are beautiful and the setting incredibly idyllic. The views are stunning and the staff pretty-much pitch perfect.
It's important to know that this is more of an eco lodge than a pure luxury hotel, although that this may add to its charm for many people. I didn't like the fact that there's no air con in the bathroom area of our room (about half of the villa) as it got incredibly stuffy in the area where we got ready, but the air con in the bedroom was powerful and a welcome relief.
My major problem was the mosquitos. Turns out I'm allergic to mosquito bites! We were told that unseasonally wet conditions in Jan had led to a higher volume of the critters than usual and, despite the regular foggings, they were clearly evident. We tried EVERYTHING to stop them, creams, repellents, coil burners, mozzie plugs, stickers, mozzie nets. But it was fighting a losing battle as the villa was very open. I was bitten 36 times in 3 days. Ouch.
HOWEVER the staff were great. They offered lots of solutions (it's not their fault they didn't work for me) and were supportive. In the end, I had to check out two days early as my legs were swelling up with horrendous welts, but the general manager kindly allowed us to check out early, despite it being high season and against the conditions of our booking. This left me with a positive outlook on my experience with Six Senses as a brand. And, ultimately, that's what you want from a 5 star hotel experience. I can see why others loved this hotel - just make sure it's your kind of thing before you book.
Room Tip: This is an eco lodge - people afraid of bugs should avoid!
