“Great ecolodges, shame about the mosquitos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2012

Loved the accommodation, attentive staff, great choice of food, the spa treatments and the golf buggy lifts around the site. Hated the mosquitos! They spray three times a day but the bugs must be resistant; beds are fitted with nets and bathrooms with mosquito coils.
The beach was disappointing.

“A tough review to write...”

This is a difficult review for me to write as our experience was so extreme, but as a regular user of Trip Advisor, I like to contribute honestly as I use this site to make important holiday decisions and I know others do.

We booked a sea view pool villa and the rooms are beautiful and the setting incredibly idyllic. The views are stunning and the staff pretty-much pitch perfect.

It's important to know that this is more of an eco lodge than a pure luxury hotel, although that this may add to its charm for many people. I didn't like the fact that there's no air con in the bathroom area of our room (about half of the villa) as it got incredibly stuffy in the area where we got ready, but the air con in the bedroom was powerful and a welcome relief.

My major problem was the mosquitos. Turns out I'm allergic to mosquito bites! We were told that unseasonally wet conditions in Jan had led to a higher volume of the critters than usual and, despite the regular foggings, they were clearly evident. We tried EVERYTHING to stop them, creams, repellents, coil burners, mozzie plugs, stickers, mozzie nets. But it was fighting a losing battle as the villa was very open. I was bitten 36 times in 3 days. Ouch.

HOWEVER the staff were great. They offered lots of solutions (it's not their fault they didn't work for me) and were supportive. In the end, I had to check out two days early as my legs were swelling up with horrendous welts, but the general manager kindly allowed us to check out early, despite it being high season and against the conditions of our booking. This left me with a positive outlook on my experience with Six Senses as a brand. And, ultimately, that's what you want from a 5 star hotel experience. I can see why others loved this hotel - just make sure it's your kind of thing before you book.

Room Tip: This is an eco lodge - people afraid of bugs should avoid! If you have mozzie allergies, avoid! If...

“Heaven on Earth”

Beautiful place. Great staff. Wonderful food. Although it was necessary to use the insect repellant a number of times a day our stay was fantastic and very memoriable.

“Slightly disappointing and poor value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We were expecting more from this resort. We were aware there wasn't a beach to speak of, so its far more important that the villas and pools are exceptional. Frankly, we found then overgrown by the trees and therefore the pool and decking received little sun. We were therefore forced to the communal pool, which is fine and has a nice view, but wished we could take more advantage of our own villa to sunbathe and relax. The villa itself was spacious, clean and well appointed. The restaurant was very good, with lots of choice, quality food, and good service. Unlike many places in Samui, its not really possible to walk to nearby restaurants and shops, although we did have a great massage on the beach right next to the hotel. All in all, for the money we spent, we did not feel satisfied with this hotel and will not be going back. There are much better and cheaper places in Samui.

“Luxry plus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were treated like royalty! The staff were efficient, professional yet friendly, very helpful and accommodating, with nothing being too much trouble!. Our pool villa with ocean views was exceptionally clean, extremely comfortable, with every possible amenity. The breakfast consisted of a superb buffet, all the restaurants offered mouthwatering meals, with great wine choices. The library had some great books also, not that we did much reading. The resort is conveniently situated between Chaweng and Fisherman's village(fifteen minuted by taxi) giving us many restaurant options and great shopping. The resorts "buggy service" is great too and the resort grounds are like a tropical paradise. Our eight nights spent at the resort were a wonderful experience and will definitely return. Thank you to the resort manager(David) and all the staff. Thank you housekeeping and the gardners who were all so polite and friendly.

Room Tip: If you can, ask for a ocean views and pool villa!
