We had to find an extra night of accommodation as the place we were staying at did not have a room free... And were we glad that was the case!
It was the first night of our stay in Phuket, and we didn't know what to expect. We have read many reviews and were intrigued. So here's the spiel:
Pros:
1. Awesome decor - reflective of the tin mining history and very tasteful.
2. Greeting - we had organized transport when we booked our accommodation, but unfortunately no one turned up, but after a phone call, a shuttle bus and chaperone was there within 10-15min to pick us up. ThereThe check in process was smooth, albeit we were not able to get into our room until 1500 (despite the check in time of 1400); it gave us some time to explore the compounds of the resort.
3. Moo's cooking class - the 6 hour course (that runs Monday and Fridays) including the visit to the market was amazing! We were given alternatives to the ones we used in class if we cannot find them back home in Australia. The kitchen apron, recipe cards, tips and the best part, we got to eat our fresh ingredients and freshly prepared meals! You also get to take home a photo keepsake. The chefs that taught us both were very talented, friendly and easily understandable.
4. Black Ginger - we walked past the restaurant in the daytime, and it didn't look that impressive. But when we got there at night, the whole place was transformed. There was a barge that took you across from the entrance to the restaurant, as if you were being transported to a faraway place for food! The decor was very nice, the staff friendly, and the Mai Tais were amazing! We had 2 entrees and one main and were quite full. The Poh Piah is and experience - make your own spring roll.
5. Room: We booked an Premium Pearl Suite. The room had an extremely comfortable bed and pillows (the second most comfortable beds we have slept in in our travels). Our room had an outdoor bathtub, it was large enough for two (including my partner who is 6ft 2, he was impressed as he struggles to find a bath tub large enough to be comfortable in). The shower head in the bathroom was very relaxing, no complaints about the water pressure. Basically the decor of the room tied in very nicely with the theme of the resort. There was a turn down service, with mosquito coil and plug-in insect repellant to boot. Well done!
6. Service - the staff were friendly and happy to assist. The majority spoke reasonable English.
7. Layout - definately liked the idea of having three separate pools - one that catered to the familym two others for adults (one of which also included a pool bar).
Cons:
1. Our airport transfer was forgotten (but that was fixed after a phone call)
2. Room was not ready at said time
3. Thre was nowhere to hang a towel or bath robe whilst utilizing the out door bath tub. Also despite the fact there were two curtains that provided privacy, a third one would have enabled one to move into the bathroom more discretely.
4. The air conditioner leaked onto the timber floor over the course of the night, there was a small puddle below the ducted air conditioning in the bedroom.
All in all, we had a positive experience and would definately come back again and recommend it to family and friends! Pity we didn't have enough time, otherwise we would have liked to try the Coqoon Spa. Until next time...
