A lot of our friends have stayed at the JW Marriott next door but we were looking for a more low key family resort (sprawling big hotel chains are not for us). Our four children (ranging in age from 4 months to eight) loved Anantara and so did we! Also, we had no problem going between the JW Marriott (we had friends staying there) and Anantara as apparently it is the same owner so we were able to share and compare the restaurants and even the pool facilities. We had a two-bedroom villa and it was spacious enough for a family of six. Villa pool is completely private, barbecue in the sala was a great experience as the sun set... friendly frogs, a gardener who brought a newly hatched baby bird to our villa for the children to see, inquisitive lizards, crabs on the beach 20 metres away from our villa's front door, outdoor cinema, mocktails by the pool, spa opened until 10.00 at night (so relaxing after putting the little ones to bed), a well-stocked library for all ages, smiling staff, the paints and toys for the children and a little used kids club all served to make this one of the best family holidays we've ever had. The restaurant by the beach was brilliant one night and okay the next but we were so relaxed, we did not care. Breakfast was excellent all five mornings of our stay (and feeding the resident ducks was a bonus each morning) although the Italian restaurant for dinner was disappointing. We stayed April 2011 and I am just planning a return to Phuket and seriously considering Anantara again because it was just so perfect.
