“A Joy to Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

I was searching online for a nights' accommodation to attend a wedding in Gainsborough. I rang several places but they were unable to accommodate my electric scooter. I rang the Black Swan and explained my disability requirements. The owner could not have been more helpful, even offering to move furniture if necessary.
On arrival we were greeted by Judy who was very helpful. Our room was formerly a stable with parking directly outside. Inside we had a double bed (extremely comfortable) and a single bed. There was a sofa, wardrobe, bedside cabinets with alarm clock and TV with freeview. We were astonished to find a small kitchen with Fridge, Microwave, Small Oven with 2 hobs and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom was very spacious with a good power shower etc.... The standard of cleanliness was exceptional.
In the morning we went to the main house for breakfast, which was plentiful and exceptionally tasty. All products are locally sourced and if staying here you would have to be mad to give it a miss!
This is without doubt the best B&B we have ever stayed in!

Room Tip: If you have a disability ask for one of the stable rooms.

“A taste of Olde England”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

After calling a few guest houses by mobile, we were directed to give the Black swan Guest House a try.
Upon arrival a few days later we met with John at the guest house. We were given the "Cromwell" Guest room which happened to be a self contaned bedsit with ensuite facilities.
It was more than what we expected and were definitely more than impressed with the facilities on offer.
Nothing, I repeat nothing was too mmuch trouble. We made good use of the faclities on offer for the time we spent there. The gorgeous but well appointed interior was easy on the eye and a charm to be snugged up to a nice cosy bed.
Take my word for it, anything else just isn't needed where John and Judy can quickly put it right.. All in all a gem of a stay. The breakfast.... a must have. If places like these can seriously provide home from home comforts, why go anywhere else?

Room Tip: It all great, doesn't matter what you get, its the service that counts.

“Ab Fab, highly recommended, lovely breakfast and fantastic people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

Our first stay at the Black Swan - when booking John was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the area and resources. Upon arrival we were greeted by Judy who looked after us all weekend. She gave us advice on walks in the local area, best driving routes into Lincoln and even googled fancy dress shops for us. She even drove us to our evening destination and provided taxi numbers for our late return. Breakfast was beautiful, with local produce and always a friendly smile. Highly recommend this guest house - will definately be returning. Thank you very much for making our stay a pleasure.

“Regrettably slightly negative review.. but you decide.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

Stayed two nights on business. Competent and efficient welcome by the owner family on arrival. My double room was on the small side but everything there and perfectly adequate. Ensuite? - again compact but good shower and above all - very clean. Breakfast? excellent choice and service and without fault. All in all excellent service.

The downside then?

The premises is situated on a junction bounded on two sides by busy roads. My room overlooked the main road. I was woken by traffic at half past midnight and heavy empty (quarry?) wagons thundering directly under my window from 6.00 am onwards. Admittedly, I am not used to heavy traffic close to where I live - so there you go it's up to you to make your choice.

Yes, it deserves a 5 star review on almost all counts - but unfortunately the location rather let it down for me.

If you stay at the Black Swan and are looking for somewhere to eat I recommend you consider The Hume Arms just a short drive south on the LIncoln road see http://www.thehumearmstorksey.co.uk/

“Value for money B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

This was our first experience of staying in bed and breakfast accommodation and we were very impressed. After a long trip from the South East we were greeted by Judy and John who showed us to our rooms and directed us to the local pub where we had our dinner. On our first morning we woke to a variety of breakfast options which were freshly cooked and very hot. We found this an ideal location as we were attending a family wedding. We were made to feel very welcome throughout our stay and if we visit Gainsbourgh again in future we would consider booking again.
