We stayed here two years ago (via Bali Retreats) and were happy with the location and price and so booked again. We were travelling as 2 families of 2 adults and 2 kids each and so we had booked both family bungalows.

Our rooms were clean and comfy. The air con was great and we didn't have any problems with mosquitos as mentioned in other posts (but this could be because we weren't there during rainy season)

There is a definite white ant/termite problem. Both of our bathrooms had rotting timber and ant trails. Each day when the rooms were cleaned the staff simply brushed off the ants but the trails were always back by next morning. Our bathroom handle was falling off, literally and we had to be careful that we or our kids didn't get trapped in the bathroom. It was falling of because the timber behind it was rotted away.

Breakfast does take nearly an hour and the cook only arrives at 8am so even if you order the night before you will not get breakfast until 9am. We knew this from our previous stay but it's still a tad annoying when travelling with kids. That being said it was delicious when it did arrive. We also ate lunch there one day which was quite good and very cheap.

The pool chlorine issue seemed better than our previous stay 2 years ago and the pool is a nice size and does get some shade which is good.

They now have Wi-Fi.

Our power went out about 5 or 6 times each day for the last 3 days when it seemed that they were using the washing machine/dryer more, which meant no lighting. And each time it went out we had to tell the staff to turn it back on as it only went out in a few bungalows, not the area where the staff are.

The bath towels smell damp and are almost threadbare. The linen needs a serious bleaching.
I got some laundry done there and ended up getting most of it redone when we moved to our next location. It had a damp smell and really wasn't clean.

I don't think that we'll stay here again, even though it is one of the better price options. It needs upgrading and I can't see that being done. It really doesn't match up to the other properties that Bali Retreats has listed at Bingin.

We stayed at Alamanda for 6 nights, never again, could not wait for the six days to pass.We booked through Bali Retreats, paid up front, however our flights were delayed and we missed a day, Bali Retreats were not willing to refund us either. The rooms are dark, they did not change our bath towels for the entire stay, breakfast is very disorganised and you can wait up to an hour, on the plus side the pancakes are excellent! We were a group of 8. The bathrooms have no towel rails, pebbles which are the shower floor are have experienced the Balinese outdoor bathrooms before at other places, which have been 100 quite sore on the feet, and as someone in a previous comment said, you are eaten alive by mozzies and ants in the bathroom. It rained and you got soaked as you sat on the toilet. We times better than Alamanda. Note as well we asked her to prepare chicken satays for the 8 of us for dinner, we didn't ask a price! What a shock to see we paid for it at the end of our stay! Note to self always ask before ordering, the other items on the menu were so reasonable so it was a BIG shock when we saw what we paid. Will not recommend this place.

We booked to stay here over Christmas 2013 and new years 2014. Part of our group arrived before Christmas and couldn't even stay there until Christmas due to the lack of internet and unhygienic nature of the rooms. Both would have been acceptable if we had truly paid a budget price, but for exactly the same price there were many alternatives without these issues right in the same area. I'd go with those over this option. Furthermore, the way our issues were dealt with the agent we booked through in Australia (Bali Retreats) was rather poor and I'd certainly not recommend using their service if after-care support is something you think you'll get.

Room tip: They all seemed to be of a similar standard (not great or well kept).

I don't usually leave reviews and am only doing so in the hope others won't stay here. We paid $50 a night and prepaid for two weeks. We moved out after two nights and forfeited our stay as we weren't going to get any refund or relocated. There was a group of us (7) here and we all felt the same. To be fair, the rooms were doable. Sheets were dirty and not changed in the two mornings we put up with the place. The main problem was the bathroom. My husband got a poorly tummy and when he was outside in the toilet (getting soaked in the rain) he was getting eaten alive. I realise there are insects even in the nicest of places, and trust me I have experienced that, but this seemed so much worse. The bath was full of ants. They bite your feet when you sit down on the toilet. I dropped the toilet roll and picked it up within two seconds and it was covered in insects. The toilet wasn't cleaned for the two mornings we were there. I could have tolerated it, maybe, but it is not a holiday place, it's a pace to test endurance. We are somewhere so much better for not that inch more per night. And the customer service from Bali retreats was poor. We all complained. Yet they haven't offered any of us any sort of refund and we all prepaid for two weeks. Very poor.

Alamanda is a pleasant little compound above the cliffs of Bingin Beach. I did a bit of research and this place for $50 AUD is very good. I love this beach. Alamanda really is very close to the beach. Up the steep steps, past the warungs, over the garbage... turn left and it's just there on the right. It is a small compund and the villas are large. The pool is small and clean and it's all a bit of an oasis, really. A local woman gave me anawesome massage by the pool. It was very peaceful. The local families who 'run' the place don't speak much; they don't intereact much at all. They lie on the mats and watch the communal tv but will assist with questions as best they can.

Room tip: All good as far as I could see.
