“Friendly, comfortable and with a great beach”

We booked Halcyon Cove because it was good value for money, but with some trepidation as we had read some poor reviews. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. Despite booking the very basic accommodation, we had a lovely large room with a sea view through a gap between the buildings in front of us. The gardens below our balcony were well kept and we frequently saw humming birds and banana birds as we drank our morning coffee.
The air conditioning was excellent, and the bathroom a good size and with a good modern sink and shower. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. Its true the rooms are a little tired in terms of decor, but having seen other resorts where friends were staying we think we did really well. We had a fridge and a safe, and plenty of storage for our clothes. It was very clean and the staff couldn't have done more for us.
We booked room only rather than all inclusive, but could charge drinks and food to our room if we wanted to stay on site, and the prices were reasonable. We had a meal at the Warri Pier restaurant which was lovely.
Access to St'John's and other parts of the island was easy, as there is a taxi service on site and prices are regulated. There are also trips available from the beach and through local tour reps. The beach is great, with a range of bars and restaurants in walking distance, and the sunsets spectacular. We would definitely stay here again.

“The good, the not so good and the uugh (lizards)”

Just came back from a week at the Halcyon Cove and it was ok, not fantastic. However the staff were absolutely lovely.

Room -Upon arrival we were met with a cold flannel and a cold glass of juice which was quite welcoming, the receptionist was really friendly. We had booked into a garden view room but got an upgrade to a poolside which we could not fault, the room was upto date, spotless and the ac worked wonderful. We got a free safe and a kingsize bed. I asked for a mini fridge in my room and it was there. Towels were of good standard for a hotel and beddings were changed when needed. Once we had no towels in our rooms and within five minutes it was sorted. We even had a scale in our room!!!
To improve - it would be nice if the mini fridge was stocked as other hotels do - it is an all inclusive resort.

Food - Could be better to be honest. I think breakfast was the same and after a time I got bored with omelettes or egg and bacon. There were other things such as pancake, dumplings, saltfish etc... however the mix did not go well, as it would be on different days. What would you eat dumplings with? used the ala carte restaurant once and had the lobster which we paid for however if you wanted something else on the menu which is free we were not allowed. rip off. We ate out most days.
Liked the idea of only a limited amount of choices each day for lunch and dinner which makes it different. Food was always hot and the staff were always on hand to help. Did not like the idea that we were given our plates like children, if you wanted extra you felt greedy getting a new plate hoowever I saw people using the same plates.

To improve - it would be nice if food was available more, sometimes we were so hungry, so we started to time when we would go to eat. A grill being available or a sandwich bar would be welcome.

Pool - was ok never went into it, but my husband did. Beach was so gorgeous I have not been into the sea for years and I visit the carribean every year, however the sea draws you to it here I even went on the jet ski.

Staff - were so nice I could not fault - I will not mentioned names as I think they were all fabulous in their own way.

Antigua - Itself is really small, we did a tour of the island in four hours, not much to see. Shirley Heights is ok a bit over-rated to me, we saw devils beach as well as I say not much to do in Antigua. Would I go back no.

In a tropical country you will encounter lizards and I had a big one running over my foot believe me when I say I scream. But it was one of the highlights of the holiday for my husband.

All in all a lovely quiet and restful holiday.

Room Tip: Poolside room seems to be the best. Steel band plays near the beachside room so a bit noisy.

“Great value for a fantastic time”

We spent a week here and had a fun, relaxing time. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food was pretty good. Would recommend going all inclusive as there's not many other places to eat near the hotel. The resort was slightly run down, kinda needed a lick of paint in spots, and our screen doors needed a bit of oiling, but these were incredibly minor downsides as we weren't in the room much, when we were it looked onto the pool and garden area, and we were literally seconds from the beach. There's a desk where you can book day tours too, which is handy. We thought overall it was pretty good value for an awesome holiday.

“Brilliant Holiday”

This hotel is only a 3*, but the food was excellent!! We never got bored at all, there was always
a choice. The hotel is very clean and the staff were brilliant. If something needed attention it was sorted quickly - our friends door lock broke while we were there. When we returned from the beach it was all put right. We will be going back ASAP. The Terrace restaurant and lobby could
do with some efficient air con, and may be a lick of paint. There is entertainment most nights. This hotel is set in a beautiful bay, with powder white sand. A good choice for a reasonably priced holiday.

“Great holiday”

Had a fantastic time in Antigua, this hotel has everything you need. Most importantly the staff are amazing. They are very friendly, helpful, funny, dedicated and tried in every way to make us enjoy the holiday.

Location is great, right on the beach, aqua in the pool was wonderful. We stayed for 2 weeks and enjoyed every moment.

Only downside was the food, had 5 days on all inclusive and thought the food was poor. Will go back but not on all incl. there are plenty of bars, restaurant nearby with much better food.

Thanks to all the staff, Errol, Charm, Fenton, Quinlan, Michael (still not sure you put the rum in though!!!). Catherine
