Being that this was my first trip to Cuba, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. However, this was a great place to relax. If you don't mind the road between Santiago and the resort, which is in a little village called Chivirico, it is well worth it. This is a very quiet resort for adults only and very friendly staff. The food was great and I would recommend this resort to anyone wanting a quiet place to relax and unwind.

Too often the two hotels are linked and it's hard to determine which review applies to which hotel.
Los Galeones is completely different from Sierra Mar which is a much larger resort type hotel. Los Galeones is much more intimate without all the trappings of typical tourist hotels.
I will visit Los Galeones in January 2012 for two weeks and will report back and do comparison between two. Watch this space.

A nice ,small and quiet resort. A rough road from the airport,quite interesting when travelled during the day. Hotel rooms adequate,spectacular scenery from the balcony, rooms in two and three hundreds block.Many repeaters (an older crowd) looking for a quiet place(NO BLARING MUSIC AROUN THE POOL),An average food affected by reluctance by the delivery trucks to conquer the "road" from Santiago.A very good staff,including the manager( Eddie).Small beach ,but with only 4 to 6 people, does not feel crowded.(not too many visitors bother to walk the 300 steps to the beach(a bonus for some). A visit to nearby Chivirico is a must to find more about life in Cuba.(safe place to walk around and mingle with the locals).Lets hope that the road will improve or this place will be a history.( that would be a shame).

We'he been there for 2 weeks. After treacherous 3 hours ride(80km) we arrived to the hotel late at night. We were assigned room not prepared for guests. Springs in the mattress sticking out in some places and sinking in the others. Bed sheet too short to cover whole old tired mattress. In the morning I asked for different sheet and was told they have none. They couldn't do anything about mattress either. Not for the first timers like us.
From my observations I learned that if you pay and shower gifts on staff and you are a repeated guest you will get better equipped room. As a repeated guest - like Ella- you will be treated better. You get the room that you want with everything in it. As to the staff... Grace is wonderful, always smiling, always accommodating, waitress Sandra looks for tips. If she will not get it at breakfast, she will ignore you at lunch time and will not serve you at all. Happened to me. They have a great cook who does wonders and nice guys working at the beach bar.
Hotel has unique setting. Beautifully positioned at the top of the mountain. With the views to die for. Build probably during "russian era" for russian staff working in Cuba and unfortunately not being updated since.
We have met wonderful people there. Atmosphere there is very "homey". Guests know each other for years. If it wasn't for the sad state of the resort...........
