We just returned from a vacation at the Windjammer landing from Aug. 20-27. My wife and I travel quite a bit, but we've never stayed in a resort that had ocean views like this one!

The entire staff is very friendly and go out of their way to make your stay as memorable as possible!

We look forward to returning to the Windjammer again in the future!

We organised our wedding and honeymoon at the Windjammer resort. We initially chose this resort because they had kitchens in their villas, which we needed as we brought our 8 month old daughter with us. We chose the something old package and it was very easy to organise, with a few emails. The wedding coordinators were brilliant and took care of everything for us. The location was a beautifully arranged gazebo on the beach (one of 3 options), the ceremony was lovely and our photos turned out so vibrant. We then had a scrumptious meal on the terrace of our villa that evening with our own chef and waiter, whilst our baby slept.
Everyone at the resort was very friendly and eager to help us. We had a 1 bedroom villa which was set on a hill with amazing views of the ocean. The villa was spacious with separate bedroom to the living room and large terrace with sun loungers & table. The kitchen was a little dated however functionable.
The resort is set on a hill and has minibuses leaving every few minutes to take people to their villas. Sometimes during busy times this can take longer.
There are at least 4 restaurants to eat at and the food was always good so would recommend all inclusive meals.
Our whole experience was wonderful and would highly recommend this resort to others to have their wedding there and/or stay for a holiday!

I stayed at the Windjammer Landing with my boyfriend from August 10th-16th, 2011. We had a Lily Suite, which I believe is one of the least expensive rooms.

The room was lovely, and it really felt like we were in St. Lucia inside by the decor! The queen size bed had a canopy over it, very romantic. Our room was a good size, including a sitting area with two chairs and a table. Right behind the chairs were the windows, overlooking the water, which swung open. There was a separate bathroom with the CUTEST bowl sink! We had our own private terrace- you had to take a flight of stairs up and over our room. Nice private area!

We opted to go all-inclusive- which if you are drinkers- (we are both in our late 20's/just turned 30) is totally worth it. We drank and ate a lot to say the least! We ate at every restaurant except Dragonfly at dinner- except on Friday night when they had the buffet- but we never had the traditional asian/indian that the menu has. Every restaurant was pretty good- Jammers was excellent for something casual at dinner. The Upper Deck had a variety of steaks, Papa Dons had a nice variety of mediterranean dishes. I recommend FISH if you like it! All of the grilled fish entrees were GREAT! Also delicious, fresh salads (loved the vinegarette), and AWESOME burgers at lunch. At breakfast the french toast is great as well as the warm chocolate filled croissants! My only complaint was on the coffee- but I'm an admitted coffee snob. Good coffee selection at Papa Dons though because they have an espresso machine. The milk they have all over the resort is VERY weird tasting....lots of preservatives in it- not like the milk in the US- which I think ruined the taste of the coffee for me.

Great drinks made at the bar! We spent a lot of the time at the Jammers bar, and made friends quickly with the bartenders. We had a few favorites, but our favorite employee of the trip was for sure Barrington. He worked at different places all over the resort with different roles in the restaurants. But I have to say, all of the bartenders were a lot of fun- and my boyfriend was very good at keeping them on their toes, and getting some laughs out of them with American humor!

As far as clientele- The resort population is dominated by families, which is expected for this type of resort. The majority seemed to be from the UK. We were some of the few United States citizens that were there....we did meet a handful here and there. Everyone was very nice.

As far as activities- we hung out at the beach every day. I did jump on the water trampoline a few times like a kid. We did play a little volleyball and basketball too. As far as excursions, we did the "Sunset Cruise" which was great. There were two boats- I would suggest going with the group that looks more fun lol! The host on the boat tries to get a party going on the way back....most of the guests on our boat were from the UK and apparently they don't let loose like we do! The only people participating in the hosts dances were my bf and I as well as two other American couples around our age. We just decided to act silly and didn't care! My bf was awarded a bottle of champagne because his birthday was in a few days. They also honored a honeymooning couple we made friends with. We also went snorkeling through the resort- fun trip, but not much to look at. I went waterskiing- it lasts only like 5 minutes- they really try to keep the line moving. We went jetskiing- which is not recommended by the resort because it's from a beach vendor- but had a blast! We had a couples massage- my first massage experience, but my bf gets them often and said it was "decent." Very small spa though. One day we hiked up the mountain to the top of the resort up by the residences for a beautiful view!

A couple other things....

Yes the resort IS HUGE, and IS on the side of a mountain. We had a really close room, just above the security gate, and always walked down to the main area. We did see the shuttles running all of the time though.

Yes, there are stray cats around the resort, in the restaurants. And yes, I did feed them filet, fish and shrimp. They were the smallest, most straggly cats I have ever seen! It's not their fault that they are strays!

There was a big rain storm our last day there. Crazy thunder/lightning...sounded like it struck right outside our room. Power did go out, phones out, tripped the breakers....luckily the fuse box is in the room and my bf fixed it. We did soon have small lake on one side of our room....the walls must not be sealed well. The cleaning lady put towels down to help soak it up, but if we didn't catch it things on the ground could have been ruined. Not a deal breaker, but if you get a big storm (which I'm assuming happens a lot) beware! Phones were still out the morning of our departure, so we couldn't call for a shuttle to bring us to the taxi with our luggage, so my bf had to go down the hill and talk to them directly, then run back up, then bring luggage down because taxis are not allowed up on the actual property....pain in the butt and almost made us late to the airport.

Yes, the street party on Friday night is a lot of fun, if you are into seeing the culture. From what we hear it's more "touristy" from 7-9, but we didn't go until around 11 and got the real St Lucian experience....we were some of the only tourists there- but had a great time! I wouldn't suggest a group of girls to go that late alone, though. Not saying it's unsafe, but I know I wouldn't have liked it as much if I wasn't with my strapping boyfriend.

We flew in through the Castries airport....easy coming in....weird going out! It is a tiny airport- but they do not have the whole security process down very well- very slow and stupid (in our opinion) way of doing it. I felt like it wasn't the safest place as far as the flights being secure.

Would def go back, but looking forward to seeing new places!

Enjoy your stay!!!!!!!

Room tip: Try to get a room as close to the main area as possible- then you won't rely on the shuttles!

We thouroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay at Windjammer and would recommend it wholeheartedly to others.

We stayed in Unit 114, a basic one bedroom timeshare apartment and found it spacious, well equipped and perfectly comfortable. It had lovely views out over the sea and watching the sunsets was a regular event from our patio. This unit was not too far from the main complex and so we didn't use the shuttle service, apart from arrival and departure. It's a fairly steep climb up to it, but perfectly walkable for most folk, I'm sure. The small pool nearby, below Papa Dom's restaurant, was usually quiet and ideal for the quick dip to cool down. The air-conditioning worked well and was relatively quiet. The daily housekeeping was excellent, changing towels and bedding at regular intervals.
Check-in seemed a little slow, although the rum punch was very welcome. An explanation of the meal plan options would have been appreciated. We opted for the Half Board which represented a big cost saving on 'all inclusive', but we realised before the end of week one, we need not have had either plan and simply charged all our meals/activities to our room. Food is expensive, but of excellent quality. The breakfast buffet choice was superb and so we would eat well here and happily not eat again until our evening meal. We enjoyed the meals at all four restaurants, but for us the pick was probably the Upper Deck. As others have said, it is certainly worth booking your table early, preferably the day before, especially if you want to eat at the popular time of 7.30.

The gardens and grounds are attractive and very well maintained. The beach is kept clean and tidy. The cold flannels brought around to all on the beach around midday was a nice touch. For those into watersports there's plenty of opportunities. The equipment in the gym is perhaps a little dated, but is perfectly adequate and servicable .... you may need to ask for the water dispenser to be refilled.

As timeshare owners elsewhere, we were happy to attend the 'timeshare pitch', which was friendly and totally pressure free .... for which we received $100 (US) taken off our final bill.
A real plus was having a nurse on site each day. We've never needed this before, but due to a foot infection my wife had (probably picked up before we arrived in St Lucia), it was so easy to meet with her .... get advice, medication and easy access to a doctor. We were immensely grateful for this.

If you don't mind the 1 mile pleasant walk from the resort to the main road you can pick up one of many minibuses going into Castries for less than US $1, and whilst the going rate for a taxi is US $25 you can easily get one for $20 for the return trip if you negotiate!

We booked the Sunset Cruise through the Jammers travel desk and would recommend this. They would arrange numerous other trips for you, but we had pre-arranged trips through Serenity Tours, which we would recommend very highly.

We found almost all the staff to be courteous, helpful and friendly. There seems to be a corporate desire to make the guests stay at Windjammer a successful one and it worked for us! We'd love to go back one day.

We did enjoy our stay at Windjammer. We didn't do the all-inclusive package, though that is an option for those that choose it. Even without the all-inclusive package, you still get some watersports for free, including a free snorkeling trip where they take you out on a boat, use of paddleboats and kayaks, and banana boat rides. For very reasonable prices you can also rent a sailboat, go on a bit longer snorkeling trip out to Pigeon Island, go waterskiing, or use the windsurfer.

The beaches are very nice, and there is a floating dock that you can swim out to, as well as a floating trampoline and a kid's slide. The beach chairs are nice and you can use the complimentary towels. There are also several pools which are all nice. They have live music near the beach, and at night some shows, like fire-eaters.

Windjammer is very family friendly. I would probably say that if you are a family you would definitely enjoy all of the activities, whereas it might be less suitable for a couple on a honeymoon. Though we were on an anniversary trip as a couple and quite enjoyed ourselves.

We decided to rent a car, after reading reviews on here about the cost of taxis. It was about the same price to rent a car as it would have been to do the round trip shuttle to the airport from the hotel, and it is only about a 1.5 hour drive each way from the airport to the hotel (if you drive normally. If you drive like the locals, it will take much less time). This also enabled us to drive into Rodney Bay for dinner and to be able to see some other parts of the island. Admittedly, the car was not as nice and new as one might expect from a rental car, but it worked fine for what we needed.

One of the main advantages of the rental car is that you don't need to eat at the hotel. We were less than impressed with the food at Windjammer. We only tried two of the restaurants: Dragonfly for dinner and Jammers for lunch. Dragonfly for dinner was really quite awful actually. The service was fine, but the prices were exorbitant and the food was subpar. Both of our entrees (one fish, one chicken) were just chunks of meat in sauce in a small cereal bowl. The presentation was lousy. The fish was bland. The chicken was decent, but nothing to write home about. You order sides separately from the entree, so if you want vegetables or rice or bread you have to order it separately at exorbitant prices. We decided to share a side of rice and a small little bowl of overcooked plain white rice came out (for $5 USD). Our experience at Jammers was a bit better--the fish sandwiches were decent, but still way overpriced ($35 EC each, which is about 12 USD). We went into town another day and had essentially the same meal and only paid $20 EC for both of us to eat! Long story short, we don't recommend the restaurants at Windjammer, though we can't speak to the ones we didn't try except to say that they all had similarly high or higher prices. Most of the restaurants in Rodney Bay do have similar prices to the ones at the resort, but the food and ambiance are much better.

Our hotel room was very nice, and we stayed in the cheapest room available which we got on a screaming deal online. It did smell a bit musty when you first walked in, but that dissipated after we turned on the A/C.

Windjammer as a resort is built on the side of a large hill, which gives it great views. But since they have villas and rooms all up the hill, they use a shuttle service to drive you from reception to the rooms. From reception, there are shuttles leaving every 5-15 minutes and you just tell them your room number and they drop you off. From your room, you call and they come pick you up within 10-15 minutes. The system is a bit inconvenient but it works okay. Though it is a bit annoying that you can't ride the van wet. After being at the beach all day, it is a bit inconvenient to have to completely dry off just to go back to your room, especially when it sometimes rains in the afternoon making it impossible to get dry. We personally would recommend to them that they make one set of vans "wet vans" and the rest dry.

The other reason the shuttle service is hugely inconvenient is that on our second day, there was a small thunderstorm, something I imagine is quite normal for the rainy season there. But it completely knocked out the phone lines (and the power for a little while). The phones didn't get fixed for 2 days. Normally this wouldn't be a big issue, but you need to use the phones to call the shuttle to come pick you up. We were staying at a room very low down on the mountain, so it was easier to walk down, but I have no idea how the people further up managed. When we told the front desk, they didn't seem all that concerned that all the phones were out and just said they had someone working on it. I think they should have developed an alternative plan to share about how the shuttles would work.

To sum up, we did have a good time staying at Windjammer, and we probably would go back because we enjoyed our time at the beach there and the free watersports. But we would definitely not eat any meals there.

Thank you for taking time to write a review. I'm glad you enjoyed the beach, water sports, your room, etc. but I am sorry you did not enjoy the food. We do take your comments to heart and I'll discuss them with our food and beverage team. We did have some unusual affects from that storm as we had a bolt of lightening hit very close by!

I do hope you'll be back - we can talk about food together when you return!
