My wife and I spent 4 nights at GBTS (in the Wild Orchid room) in early February, 2011. First, it should be said that the owners of the B&B, Nancy and John, are two of the nicest, most hospitable B&B hosts we have encountered over the years. For instance, last year, when we were supposed to have stayed at GBTS, but had to cancel at the last minute due to a family emergency, they were kind enough to credit us the full amount of our deposit. Throughout our stay this year they provided us with great travel advice for the island and for restaurants in the area. They also provided us with great breakfasts each day (a different one each morning).
The B&B itself is located in a neighborhood that is a 10 minute walk from the main part of town. There is a path that goes through a nearby artist's studio that makes the walk to town fairly easy, however if the gate to the path is closed the walk, although short, is over a very steep hill. From the deck of the B&B there is a nice view of the nearby pond and a partial view of the ocean looking towards St. Thomas. There are also a lot of exotic looking birds that come to the birdfeeders near the deck, including hummingbirds, so it makes for a very tropical location.
The room itself, The Wild Orchid, doesn't really have much of a view although it looks out on the communal deck that does have the view described above. The bathroom, a sort of indoor/outdoor bathroom, was perhaps the one aspect of the room we had some slight hesitation with because it seemed that the condo building behind the B&B had one or two balconies that possibly looked directly down into the shower area. The concern was more at night when a light might be on in the bathroom, but during the morning shower we weren't as concerned.
Overall, GBTS is a great choice for those looking to stay in Cruz Bay. Nancy and John are delightful hosts who will certainly make you feel welcome to the island.
