My husband and I were looking for a secluded beach vacation, and that is exactly what we got. We went on this vacation with my parents, and the 4 of us, were often the only ones around. Sky Beach Club has much potential to be an upscale resort. Due to some alleged financial issues, the resort seemed to stop half way through construction. This was not an issue for us, as the island itself is so beautiful, and we were happy to explore it. We were thrilled with the seclusion, and the laidback casual atmosphere at the resort, as well. I do believe, however, that a few little things would go a long way. For instance, the infinity pool was not so infinity... there wasn't enough water in the pool for it to flow ever, the hottub was only half way filled, the bar supposedly closes at 9pm, but often closed earlier,...etc. Again, these are not major complaints, but for the atmosphere that Sky Beach is trying to portray, these little things would make a difference. (as people are paying good money to stay here)
The staff was overall nice. Some were genuinely friendly, while others were hot and cold. The service is generally slow. This didn't bother us, as we were on "island time".
The room was lovely. The bathroom was fantasic, especially the rain shower. The bed was uncomfortable, though. For the high end resort that Sky Beach is trying to portray, they should have invested in better quality beds. The resort itself is fairly new, so the bed should not have been in such bad shape. We stayed in bungalow # 3, which is the most private, and my parents stayed in bungalow # 1, which overlooks the pool area. That being said, I wouldn't call bungalow # 3 private. Although no guests walk in front of the room, it sits behind the restaurant and maintenance area. Therefore, the employees are often passing by the bungalow.
The view of the ocean from the room, however, is stunning. The ocean is gorgeous! I never knew the Atlantic Ocean could be so beautiful. (We are from Jersey, and the water can often be merky here.) Unfortunately, though, the beach left something to be desired. At no fault of Sky Beach Club, the beach is quite littered with garbage. I believe this is partially to due to Hurricane Irene, and partially due to the extreme windy weather. The amount of garbage on the beach was enough to deter us from spending time on our beach. Sky Beach has someone cleaning it every other day, but it just washes back up.
We rented a car (you can get one for $70 a day) and visited several other beaches. The wind made swimming in the Atlantic impossible, but we were able to swim on the Caribbean side. The sea was calm and gorgeous. Cocodimama beach and Ten Bay were both secluded and lovely.
The island of Eleuthera is beautiful, quiet, and casual. There is not much night life, nor shopping. The beaches are stunning. We would gladly return to Eleuthera. Although we enjoyed our stay at Sky Beach Club, we wouldn't return in it's current state. I'm sure once the resort is completed, it would warrant a return visit.
