“Dirty!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

First room I have been taken to was dirty: dirty carpets, dirty and stained chair, hair on the floor in the bathroom. I have asked for another room without carpet and was taken to one. Here I found cheewing gum on the floor beside the wimdow, dirty and stained chair again, dirty courtains and hair on the floor in the room and in the bathroom.
There was a lot traffic on the street due to the construction and it has taken me 40 minutes to get to the hotel's garage from the back street, the front entrance was blocked by the construction. Only because my car was already in the garage I have decided to stay and asked that they send houskeeping to clean. Someone showed up with a broom and did a half good job cleaning the hair off the floors. She explained that it was probably the same maid cleaning both rooms (on 2 different floors)and that is why it was done so poorly. She said that they will look into it and talk to her. She had no explanation about other things, only mentioned that the owners are not really willing to spend money to keep the hotel in decent shape. Well, then- I will not spend my money there either.
The room I have seen are small with 2 double beds, 1 chair and a narrow table where the TV is placed. There is poor ventlation and very depressing feel, small window faces the interior of the hotel (I have not asked to be in the room facing the street due to the construction and traffic that is always there).

“Great place”

We had a great experience here. The rooms were large and clean, ditto the bathrooms. Two fresh bottles of water every day. The maids were honest to a fault - I left 20 pesos in what I thought was a conspicuous location and they didn't touch it. Loved the guitarist in the evenings. Breakfast buffet was awesome and very reasonable (95 pesos). Wireless in the lobby though not in the rooms.

The staff overall was incredibly helpful (and my dad can be very demanding!) We had one issue at check in - I had tried to make the reservation through the online system on their website. I even called to confirm it, but whoever answered the phone said "don't worry about it, just come in." I was supposed to get 10% off for doing it online. Although the guy at the desk when we arrived didn't have a record of my on-line attempt, he ended up giving us the discount anyway. Like I say, the rest of the time there were no glitches, but best to make reservations some way other than through their website.

We booked the Jose Cuervo tequila tour through them too (260 pesos per person, includes transportation, stop at the agave fields to see the macho worker harvest the plant, factory tour, free samples). It was a lot of fun, I highly recommend it.

I can confirm that the fan in the bathroom was indeed very loud, and the beds hard, although that was perfect for me. Other than that, no problems with this place.

“Loved this Colonial Gem”

We loved this colonial cozy hotel. Stayed for two days, and loved it. Every Thursday, Friday & Saturday in the evenings they have live romantic guitar music in the bar, with colonial architecture, and a great atmosphere. In addition, it is located a few blocks away from the cathederal and Plaza Garibaldi -- Highly recommended...

“Fantastic Mexican Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2008

We arrived in Guadalajara and hoped to stay in the Hotel Morales, as we had read many great reviews on your site. It was full and our Taxi driver suggested the Compostela. We slept in an inside room, lovely, with a funky hairdryer! It was incredibly quiet, (our only complaint was that the beds were quite hard) We were within walking distance of many of the sites in the Centro Historico. The rooftop swimming pool was great with a terrific view of the square. There was live Spanish guitar/singer in the courtyard in the evening. We visited the San Juan de Dios Market, where they sell everything from live fancy birds to many varied and unusual cuts of meat! We walked the various squares within walking distance and watched a Sunday afternoon performance of the Charreada, a Mexican version of Rodeo/ fancy roping. On the way back the following week we had a car and the Compostela has a locked underground garage. The friendly (Spanish speaking) staff allowed us to keep our car in the garage until 4 p.m. even though we had checked out at 9 a.m. - Our second stay was better than the first, softer beds, equally quiet. $800 per night for three of us. Breakfast was great if a bit expensive for Guadalajara standards - about $100 per person. We walked to the Market on the last day and found a lovely coffee-breakfast place "Chai" that was the best Huevo Rancheros of the trip.

“Good location and interesting hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2005

Very good location in the centre of Guadalajara on a fairly noisy but attractive square. Within walking distance to all the sights in the centre. Interesting bar in the central atrium with piano playing at times. Lovely restaurant with a wonderful buffet breakfast. Roof top swimming pool was a bonus. Room was large and overlooked central atrium, no traffic noise but hotel was quite noisy at times. Quite good value.
