“very nice for holidays”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

I liked my stay in Dos Playas a lot. Nice hotel for 3stars, big choice of delicious food (but not drinks as usually with all inclusive), cool staff in a restaurant (miss them already). Beach is small but very close, night life-rather by bus or taxi but stll quite close(10minutes). Good point for seeing things like Chitchen Itza, Tulum, Coba etc. In the hotel we have met many great people from different countries. I am very happy with my stay in the hotel:)

“Perfect for relaxation!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

I stayed at Dos Playas with my boyfriend for two weeks at the end of November. The hotel was CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN, the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was great. The only bad food we had was on Arabic Night. We eat a lot of middle eastern food-skip it. Other than that, the food was delish. The room was sparse: a king-size bed (I was uncomfortable on it but my boyfriend loved it), a desk and chair with three dresser drawers and a tv, and an a/c. The closet was long but had only two hangers and no top shelf, but I'm sure if I had asked for more hangers I would have had them. I read another review about there not being enough towels but we asked for extras and got them. Leaving a tip for the maids helps. Even though it's all-inclusive, let's face it, the maids are cleaning up your mess, a few pesos to say thanks isn't a big deal! The pool was sparkling clean every day. The beach WAS small but clean. Yes, there was seaweed but it was cleaned up every day as much as possible and again, it's a beach-expect seaweed.
Our pool-side entertainer was Benjy, and he was great. He let us play our music and interacted with people when we were up to it, and let us all chill if we wanted to chill.
We went for a relaxing vacation and we had it-the hotel was quiet and in a quiet area. We stayed there so we could take day-trips and not feel like we were spending money on a room we were never in.
The worst thing I can say is that there was no food between 5pm and 7pm, since the restaurant closes for lunch at 3pm and re-opens at 7pm for dinner, and the snack bar closes at 5pm. We went to the corner store once for snacks since it was a short walk away, and otherwise just made sure to get a snack in case we were hungry. Still, it's only two hours so it isn't as though people would starve.
I would recommend this hotel to the budget-minded traveler looking for a cozy, quiet hotel. This is not a place for luxury, but it is the place for comfort and making new friends.

“Horrible”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

Concierge not very helpful, confusion, tiny room with very small closet and only 2 drawers, no microwave, fridge, clock, bathroom OK but only 2 bath towels, no hand or face towels, food mediocre, service poor. Pool full of sand, no spa. Beach tiny (15') full of rocks, seaweed & litter, and right in front of ferry boat dock-too dirty and dangerous. Walkways treacherous, uneven with holes, We spent one night and left.

“Cant really complain for the price that I paid.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

So, me and my boyfriend got a super good last minute all inclusive deal to this place, and pretty much spent on the whole package what some people would have spent on the flight alone so I dont think I can really complain about the quality of the hotel.

To be honest, my first impression was that the place was really ghetto. Probably because I am used to 4/5 star places. If you are expecting any sort of luxery you will be dissapointed. by the end of the week I had gotten used to it and even miss it now.

The room was really plain, but clean. it takes about 5 min to get hot water to the shower so start running the water before you want to get in. the beach was alright, nothing special, but fine to hang out on. there was 2 restaurants, one buffet and one thai. we never went to the thai one. the buffet was fine, the food tasted good and I think there was alot of variety. but again, if you are expecting fancy food you will probably be dissapointed.

the location of the hotel is really good. it is right next to the ferry dock/where the catamarans leave. on the lagoon side there are bus stops that will take you anywhere you need to go so you never have to taxi. it is also walking distance to the main strip of clubs, so you can stumble home drunk to sober yourself up abit.

they do not provide botteled water, but you can bus to walmart and buy it for super cheap.

All in all, we had a really good time. I dont think I would ever go back to this hotel, but it did the trick, and with all the money we saved on a hotel we got to go on a bunch of super fun daytrips so we had a really good vacation. I would say it is a good value for the money.

oh and the beds are really really hard, so are the pillows. I found the bed really uncomfortable but my boyfriend liked it, he likes hard beds I guess. maybe bring your own pillow.

“Much Better Than Expected !!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2010

We found this resort to be above our expectations. Our biggest concern was the food we had read so much about, we found it to be very good with a good selection at every meal. The accomodations were very basic but very clean. The grounds were well kept and always being worked on. The staff were second to none, very friendly and quick.. The beach was a little small but adequate. Very close to everything you could want to do. A great place to sit back and relax. We met some great people, Albie & Sue, Jane & John , and Sandy, they helped make this a very good trip.
