My husband, 20 year old daughter and I just returned from a week at this resort. The Cancun Airport is a disorganized mess, so just be prepared. It took an ungodly amount of time to get out of the airport to find our transportation. It is about a 45 minute drive to the resort from the airport. Check-in went very smoothly, and we were soon in our rooms. We were in villa 27 which was a perfect location in our opinion. It was close to the pools, beach and two of the restaurants, but set back one building from the main path so it was quiet. We were on the second floor which was nice. The rooms are quite spacious and nicely equipped as you can see from my photos. The towels were of good quality and my only complaint is that each day we would only get three bath towels for the two of us. Being in a beach setting, sometimes you need more than one shower a day. It was hit or miss as to whether we would get a hand towel or a wash cloth. The resort is very nicely laid out and is a smaller property, which we liked. The lobby area is pretty, and we very much appreciated the free wifi in the lobby. The lobby area is pretty, and we very much appreciated the free wifi in the lobby. Normally I do not complain about the food at all-inclusive resorts but I have to say that the food at the La Hacienda and El Charro was just average, and boring after a few meals there. However the food and service at both the Japanese and Italian restaurants were excellent.
As others have said, there is not much beach at this resort, and the area where you can swim is definitely not too attractive. However thanks to the reviews on TripAdvisor, we knew this when we booked our trip. We did walk down to the lagoon, which is more like a 20 minute walk not the 10 minutes that others have said, and it is definitely worth the trip. If you have snorkeling equipment, be sure to take it along with you. We used the on site dive shop several times. My husband and daughter both took the lessons and went scuba diving, and the snorkeling expedition we went on ended up to be the best snorkeling we have ever experienced. Truly like swimming in an aquarium - highly recommend!
On the recommendation of the concierge, we hired a taxi to take us to Chichen Itza instead of one of the tour buses. Best decision ever! Not only was it less expensive, but we were on our own timetable and were able to see the ruins at Tulum as well as the ones at Chichen Itza. Additionally our driver took us to a small restaurant for lunch where we had excellent traditional Mayan food.
For those who are interested, there was a nice mix of age groups at the resort during our visit and it was not all couples. Friends traveling together would not feel out of place at this resort. My last comment is that the mosquitoes are terrible. Pack your bug spray and some anti-itch medicine. I did not expect to get bitten inside the lobby, restaurants and area where the evening shows are held but I did.
Getting out of the Cancun airport was worse than arrival. We stood in line for an hour and fifteen minutes just to check our bags and get our boarding passes. This may be a Saturday phenomenon, but be prepared if you are traveling that day of the week.More
