We stayed here for 3 nights in late June 2014. You cannot beat the price. It's an older motel run by a couple that lives on site. It's not fancy, but it's clean and safe and it's located on the highway halfway between Tulum and Coba. The couple speaks no English, but they are very nice, and work hard to try to accommodate even if done via hand signals. They appeared to be in the middle of renovations during our stay (June and July are the low season) but it wasn't an issue. Their weimareiner dog, Suri, is beautiful and friendly, and we all enjoyed playing with her. The pool was clean and oh so refreshing after a day of hiking at Coba. The woman (embarrassed that I can't remember her name) was hand raising a green macaw that she found as an abandoned egg on the property.. Where else would you get to see and touch a 3 week old macaw? To me, Palma Real embodies 'real' Mexico. It was not a fancy resort, but it was safe and clean and we felt completely welcome due the wonderful hospitality of the owners. Note that there is no food served on site and it's a 10- 15 minute drive into Tulum for all services. Gas up and buy groceries before you head out for your stay. About a 25 minute drive to Coba.More
