My husband and I and another couple stayed at PavoReal for five days before moving on to
Playa del Carmen for 8 more days, and we all wish we'd stayed longer. Our rooms were bright and clean, though quite small. The grounds were lovely, with gardens, three pools, and a nice stretch of beach. The staff was friendly and informative, the food was delicious, and the drinks were good.
We were a little apprehensive in light of some reviews we'd read, but most of those complaints just weren't real, at least to us. Yes, the "animation team" does work hard to encourage guests to participate in activities, but they are interesting, bright young people who are fun to talk to, so that wasn't a problem. Yes, the meal times are fairly short -- an hour and a half or two hours -- but there is always food available at the pool bar between meals. Yes, it is located a good bit north of the town of Tulum, but the town isn't on the beach, either.
We thoroughly enjoyed being away from the busier, more touristy areas. And we also had a once-in-a-lifetime experience TWICE while there-- we witnessed two different nests od sea turtles hatching! The first hatchlings were confused by the lack of a moon on a cloudy night and came marching onto the pool deck toward the lights of the hotel. The first hatchlings were confused by the lack of a moon on a cloudy night and came marching onto the pool deck toward the lights of the hotel. The four of us, along with one other couple and two staff, had to gather more than 100 little tortugas from the deck, the pool, and the garden and take them to the sea! What an amazing night!
We loved this place and hope to return soon.More
