Just returned from 3 nights in this hotel, centrally located in Banff, which isn't a ski in ski out resort, you need to drive(or bus) to Sunshine(15mins) or Lake Louise(45 mins). Buses collect behind hotel, hotel has on site bars and restaurant, rooms are pretty standard, can't expect luxury due to hammering by skis/boards etc...I had front street facing room, luckily as these were brighter than other rooms and offered great views of the phenomenal scenery in the area. Banff is not a huge town but has shops, restaurants and bars within minutes from the hotel...
Good for skiing at Sunshine but if you want to spend more time in Lake Louise, I would stay in the town of Lake Louise to save the 45 min travel..Plus my initial impression was hampered by a short a sweet, abrupt receptionist which you don't really need after traveling for many hours to get there...

We stayed at this Hotel on short notice and booked with night auditor "Leahnie". What a great value to the team this young lady is. She was very helpful and spent the time we needed to book our 3 rooms. This Hotel shows really well. I will definately return for my next visit. The rooms were very clean. the only downside is all 3 of our rooms did not have hot water for 2 hours in the morning of checkout. Staff didnt offer and suggestions when we brought it to their attention. I wouldnt suggest eating at Tony Romas as the communication is poor with staff their. We waited for an hour for a seat with very little communication from staff after the initial 30 minute committment.
We used the Sauna and Jacuzzi. Both very clean. This Hotel is a very reasonable price with an excellent location and very nice views. Why pay top dollar for something "not" on the main strip when you can stay here for a fraction of the cost.

Stayed here after Christmas 2011, heading to the mountains for snowboarding. The location cannot get any better.
Our room was average, but that was to be expected (for the price we paid - no complaints).
It was clean and the beds were comfortable.

My only issue is that our room was next to the laundry room and my friends were near the ice machine. It was so incredible noisy. I could also hear people in the hall and thankfully it was only as they were walking through and not incessant screaming. Should I come back I would ask that my rooms not be next to either of these noisy spots.

The wireless connection --> sucked!

I also like that this is a pet friendly building. I didn't bring mine, but I'm always partial to places that allow this.

I would come again.

We stayed two nights in Room 524 (on the 3rd floor) located in what looked like an addition, away from the main lobby. It was somewhat small but clean. The classic decor was interesting. The queen bedding was basic, but, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was small with a low ceiling making the shower space very dark with the curtain closed. Although this room was in the addition and updated somewhat recently, it had it's blemishes. The bay-like window looked over Banff Ave. with a view of Sulpher Mt. in the background. The Internet connection was somewhat slow; adequate to websearch and e-mail documents, which I did. The checkin and checkout staff were fine. I was able to find parking even after returning in the evening. The entire town of Banff experienced a blackout for 3-4 hours. We got back into town after 8pm and most everything was closed. Hard to find dinner in a powerless town and the businesses were hurt this night. However, Mount Royal somehow had backup power. There was electricity throughout the hotel when the rest of the town was black. The on-premise restaurant was one of the few open and serving as well as the adjacent pub downstairs at basement level. There is something to be said for that. I would consider staying here again for under one twenty.
