I have stayed in 3 suites at this establishment: Hawaii(approx dec 01), and more recently Acupalco/Mexico(Mar 08), and the Jakarta penthouse suite for 2 days (dec 25-26th 08). Hawaii and mexico are small but nice rooms. The Jakarta Penthouse suite is ridiculously overpriced, considering the Steam shower didn't work (and they neglected to tell us of course, they played dumb even though there was a great big hole in the wall where they took the steam unit OUT...), they have pretty little strings of lights everywhere... but they don't change any bulbs so nothing works, and unfortunately their actual beds themselves (in all 3 suites that ive stayed in) are horribly old, uncomfortable, and they didn't even have sheets on the bed.. just a very old quilt. The fireplace only worked when you played around with it for a long time which was annoying, and i basically felt as though everything was super outdated and cheap. On top of it all, their staff is incredibly intrusive, knocking on your door constantly, and all we really wanted was to be left alone so we could enjoy each other(and that happened all 3 times we stayed there). Also, being in the exchange of winnipeg, you hear firetrucks all night long. I pass this information along because it is a "theme suite" and people pay (more) for the ammenities that are in the room...or in this case werent.

My wife and I stayed in the Morocco room for a one night, Valentines Day retreat. The room itself was lovely and well done as a theme. It was clean and pleasant to stay in. Curiously, there is no provision given for clothing, saving for a single coat rack in, of all places, the bathroom. This would be a problem for a stay of any length as our clothes had no place but the floor. The bed - just a mattress alone on a platform - was not on par with the room and wasn't the most comfortable for sleeping or lounging.

The reason for our negative overall experience - and I almost rated it as terrible - was the classless feel to the service we received. Beginning with the reservation process there was an underlying "take it or leave it" attitude that continued through to the end of the stay. Rather than feeling as a welcomed guest, it felt more as if they were doing us a big favor by allowing us to stay at their hotel - despite the $400+ fee for one night. We were warned - as though children - not to lose the room key or they would charge us $500.00 to replace it. "Don't mess up the room, or it will cost you extra" They insisted on taking us through the room, item by item, showing us how to turn lights on and off, how to turn on the shower and steam room, etc. To me, this seemed like a unnecessary intrusion into our time - just give me the key, if I have a question be available for me to ask you.

As a previous reviewer has mentioned, nothing is included - everything is an extra cost. We could easily have bumped our cost up substantially by adding what would normally be included at other theme room hotels we have stayed at. Parking was a miserable affair. They recommended that we park in a certain parkade - at our own additional cost of $14 for 1 night - but failed to tell us that it would be locked up the next day, requiring us to walk around and around the parking deck all the way to the 5th level to retrieve our vehicle in sub-zero temperatures.

In the end, we realize that the same quality experience - better in fact - can be had at 2/3 the price. Indeed, we have had many stays at other places for much less that were better, overall experiences. The difference is in the service, the extras and the feeling of being welcomed, appreciated guests.

We are sorry to hear that our guest service was not up to our usual standards. While our theme rooms design and atmosphere are always five stars equally important to us is our service we give to guests.
Parking is now available to guests in the underground heated and secure parking garage around the corner from our property.
The cost is usually $50 and it includes candles lit throughout the suite, use of bubble bath, movies and aromatherapy oils for the steam room.
We would love to have you come again to experience another getaway. Please call me directly if you are interested in booking another getaway. My cell number is 204-227-7299.

To make it short, we paid over $375.00 for $1 worth of candles and a steam room. It took 15 minutes to get hot water, the room was cold (freezing breeze came into the room) and the room smelled like stale smoke. The breakfast we paid for but didn't have was supposed to be in a neighboring restaurant next door... it only opened at 11h00. Knowing better, I wouldn't have paid no more that $100 for the room.

Wouldn't stay nor eat here again. It's kind of run down and made me feel like a cheap hooker.

My husband booked the Mexico suite as a surprise for me - I was very surprised - and we had nothing with us upon our arrival (I had been working in the yard). The woman at the front desk was very nice and told us not to worry - there was shampoo and conditioner in the room and anything else we needed - we should just ask. The shampoo and conditioner was a bottle of "Head and Shoulders" (not romantic) and everything else was at an extra cost. Lowell - I believe he is the owner - came to the room and tried to convince us to order dinner, with no mention of the price. We said that we would think about it - my husband told me that the dinners are between $75.00 - 150.00 for 2 people for pasta or steak, about triple the cost of a similar dinner in a restaurant. We decided to get one of our kids to bring us some food. We borrowed a few music CD's - also an extra cost, and my husband had ordered the breakfast for the morning. The breakfast consisted of 2 VERY stale muffins, 2 delmonte fruit cups (the type you would put in a child's lunch) and 2 bottles of juice (again - not very romantic). We were very hungry by the time we left.

I contacted Lowell - explained the things that we enjoyed - the jacuzzi and the steam shower, the concept of the hotel etc. but told him that it felt somewhat "cheap" as opposed to romantic - that someone was trying to save a few bucks. Lowell was pleasant, but did not even offer us our money back for the breakfasts - which I'm sure remained in the fridge to be resold.

We have been to other romantic "couples" places that cost less, (Inverness Falls Resort is our favorite) and found that they felt much more romantic and luxurious - with everything included. This could be a great hotel with just a few changes - the finishing touches and a feeling of being pampered rather than an extra cost for everything.
