“As good as any”

Very nice day staff. It was very busy, but they had extra staff so there was very little waiting for extras. We had the room right at the end of the hallway so it was quiet despite 3 hockey teams staying there.
Issues I have with this place is that when coming in the front door, there is a lot of stale smoke smell because they don't do anything to enforce their own rules regarding distance from the doorway for smokers. Even after I mentioned it, nothing changed. ***IF YOU POST THE RULE LIKE YOU DO, THEN HAVE THE GUTS TO ENFORCE IT! I DO NOT WANT TO BREATH OTHER'S SMOKE!!!The night girl seems to have a chip on her shoulder. I accidentally locked myself and my dog out and she was very cold about me getting a spare and acted like my dog was a bother, but she certainly didn't take long grabbing the $5 tip I gave her for her 'trouble' and then did it without so much as a thank you. As I said though, the day staff is very nice. While I was using the lobby computer after midnight, there were two young ladies, who were not customers, acting up, swearing, making unnecessary noise and going into the hallways 'looking for the hockey players'. I brought this to the attention of the night clerk who KNEW they were there. She rudely said "I don't know if they were invited or not." I said it doesn't matter because they had no business making noise at that time of the night and no business being allowed to hang around the hotel if not customers." That got me a dirty look and then she just stood there staring at me and refusing to do anything about them. She needs to take her feet off the desk and do her job as it seemed no matter who went up to the desk they had to wait until she felt like getting up. Another issue was with the front entrance that constantly had the door propped open with the rug. I believe it was so the staff could slip out for a smoke. There's a video camera watching the area but I guess nobody is monitoring it. Since my room was at that end, at night this propped door allowed wind along the floor which I felt under my door, as well as removing my level of safety.
Overall, it's an ok place to stay and would be a LOT better if the issues I mentioned were taken care of.

“Horrible!!!”

My wife and I were in Timmins to attend a wedding. The reception was at this hotel so decided to stay there because it was convenient. We killed earwigs and ants all night. There was no soap, toilet paper and very few towels. The Bride & Groom also stayed at this hotel and they had the same experiences and also many of the guests. At checkout we mentioned it to the front desk staff and they said that the hotel is regularly sprayed for pests but obviously hadn't happened for awhile. When we returned home we e-mailed the general manager of the hotel to explain to him the problems and he didn't give me the courtesy of a reply. Do not stay at this Hotel, travel a little distance down the road and stay at the Super 8. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

“Needs to be updated.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2009

Looks like a dive from the outside but it was actually clean when you walked inside. Needs major updating including new carpets and beds. Front staff was OK. Skip the free breakfast next morning and go to Tims or somewhere else. Was OK for 1 night stay but would likely try the new Super 8 next time.

“French Experience in Timmins”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2008

The hotel staff are friendly, and fluently bilingual - the hotel is located in the French neighbourhood of Timmins. It's a bit far from downtown Timmins, but there's a nearby bus stop with direct services into town. Not much to see around the hotel. Free wireless internet, and good food in the hotel restaurant. Good place to stay for business trips!

  • Liked — Big room, friendly staff, restaurant food
  • Disliked — Location (not much to see around the hotel, far-ish from Downtown)

“Going downhill, almost at bottom!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2008

I've stayed here a few times before, once for about eight to ten days, and was not very impressed. I did have one good experience when I was given a "suite" for one night and that was the only really decent stay that I had. I had told myself that I would NOT stay here again. Well I made the mistake of booking another stay. I guess I just don't learn quickly.

I contacted the hotel directly, asked specifically for one room, for two different nights, during the same week, Monday and Thursday. I specifically requested a room with a work area (desk), iron & ironing board and a fridge for each night.
Monday late afternoon I check in, am given a room on the 2nd floor and go up to it. The "work space" is a very small table with a chair and there is NO iron and ironing board. I lug my bags back downstairs and head to the front desk to explain my specific requests when I booked the room. After a few minutes I am assigned another room. I again lug my bags to the room, go in and find a "work space" that is adequate except for the microwave taking up half the space. Again, NO iron and ironing board. I phone the front desk and request (for the third time now) an iron and ironing board. About 15-20 minutes later there is a knock on my door and a guy gives me an iron (hurray) and a miniature size ironing board (you're kidding, right?). That's what is called an ironing board.

I am less than happy and contact the front desk to cancel my reservation for Thursday. NO way am I staying in this place ever again unless every other hotel within 100 kms. of Timmins is booked solid.

  • Liked — Nothing
  • Disliked — Lack of attention to specific requests made when booking and checking in
