My party of 3 seniors recently stayed here for one night at the beginning of July on our way to Calgary and it was a very pleasant experience which lived up to all of our expectations. The hotel is just of the TransCanada Highway, on a slip-road which has the usual chain motels and plenty of eateries/gas stations and is easy access for getting back on the highway. The parking lot was huge and we parked right outside our room door. The mature lady on the front desk was very polite and welcoming and our ground floor room was large, clean and well furnished with super-comfortable beds. We had a fridge/micro/coffee maker which was a bonus. The bathroom was very clean with ample toiletries. Next door was a family with 3 small children, one of them a baby, and we were dreading being woken early by them but we needn't have worried - we slept soundly and never heard any noise whatsoever!
The breakfast consisted of juice, coffee/tea, cereals, muffins and toast/jelly. Not a lot of choice but as much as you liked and more than enough to send you on your way without feeling hungry or having to find a restaurant. The eating area was large, well-ventilated and clean.
Check out was as pleasant as check-in had been and the lady was on the front desk again and wished us a safe journey - quite a thoughtful touch, I thought! Would I stay here again or recommend it - you bet, it was excellent value for the money compared to some of the other hotels I researched before our trip. Not luxury, but perfectly adequate.
If you stay in Golden then I would recommend a side trip driving the 15 or so kilometers up the Kicking Horse Trail to the resort at the top. You will not be disappointed! The views of the mountains are spectacular and the drive up takes you across a quaint single lane bridge over the river.
