We booked the traditional Bull Hotel as a base for a weekend exploring the Cotswolds. We arrived a little earlier than planned and couldn't check-in so had lunch at the hotel. The food was interesting but rather expensive for what it was. The staff were friendly enough but something just didn't feel right, they all seemed preoccupied. Then when we reached our room we couldn't get in - the key was either wrong or the lock broken. We were then asked to give them half an hour or so while they got the handyman to look at the lock. Surely in this day and age there should be more than one key for a room, but no-one offered to try another key before calling the handyman. When we eventually got into the room it was rather tired looking and although full of original character features, it was also full of old cobwebs and dead flies etc. in the window frames. We later noticed that cobwebs were a particular speciality of this property - with a huge established one on the stairs from the bar to our room below the 1st window bay, and another huge one above the window in the TV sitting area. The bathroom although large was rather a let down. The strip light with the shaver socket was on the wall above the basin but the mirror was on a different wall with no special lighting around...More
