“Do not be fooled by the pictures. These appear to be really old compared to what we encountered.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

We arrived at the property on Thursday 4th Novemebr 2010. My husband and my two dear friends for a two night stay to tour Ayr and its fine dining. On arrival the cottage was so damp and non aired that we had to return to the town and buy numerous candles to get rid of the odour. On examining the double room it was abundantly clear that the bedding had not been changed since the previous occupants had vacated. We found clean linen in the wardrobe of the twin room which was so damp that we had to drape over the radiators to dry. We had to drag the matresses from twin beds and sllep on the sitting room floor due to the damp rooms The fridge still sported jars of unused jam and mayonaise and the gas fire was loosely hanging from the wall with newspapers stuffed under to ensure stability. This made us very afraid to use the gas fire. We did pay all the money due on departure but would not like anyone to experience what we have. This is a totally one in one out accomodation rent and maintained only by the good hygeine of the previous occupant.

With reference to your recent comment ,I would like to make the following response.

1. The internal photographs are accurate apart from a new carpet in the lounge which was fitted recently .There has also been a change of picture over the fireplace.

2. The cottage was cold and may have felt damp because I had forgotten to switch the central heating on- for this I do appologise again most sincerely.

With no deposit and no written confirmation either by letter or e mail the date of your short 2 night stay arrival was assumed to be on the Friday.

3. The gas fire in not hanging from the wall as it stands on its own legs.

4. The cottage had been cleaned and prepared for your arrival, indeed had been visited and graded by Visit Scotland 3 days before your viist and had been given a cleanliness rating of 4 out of 5. No one stayed in the cottage after it was visited by the Visit Scotland Representative.

5. The bed linen had been cleaned and was unused - the Visit Scotland Representative will confirm this .

6. The Helmans mayonnaise and tomato sauce left in the fridge were in date for use and were left for your convenience.

7. At no time when we met or during your stay ,did you express any dissatisfaction despite the fact that I was available next door.I would have welcomed an opportunity to rectify any shortcommings while you were there

In summery I am very sorry that the cottage was not warm for your arrival and did not live up to your expectations.

With written confirmation and a deposit these problems would have been avoided and you would have arrived to a welcoming cosy bright cottage.

Please get in touch with me .

“Harbourview apartment: relaxing place to stay overlooking river”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

Harbourview is a comfortable first-floor flat in a terrace on a very quiet street right beside the river Ayr. The kitchen and living room directly overlook the river, with the old town of Ayr on the other bank. We had an enjoyable, relaxing week here and the flat provides an ideal base for exploring Ayr and the surrounding area. The location is peaceful, but within easy walking distance of shops, cafes, restaurants etc, and the sea, just across the bridge.
The sitting room is a particularly nice place to relax, with two big windows overlooking the river, from which you can watch swans, cormorants, a flock of geese, ducks and seagulls, and see the changing colours of the water in different weathers. At night you can watch the lights of Ayr come on over the river. The kitchen is very well equipped and the bedrooms of a good size with comfortable beds. Generally the appearance of the flat was attractive and bright, without being fussy or so perfect that you are afraid to breathe.

Mrs Hardie, the landlady, was very welcoming, and was on call throughout our stay if we needed anything (we didn't). There is free internet access, which was a welcome extra.

Ayr itself is an enjoyable place to stroll around - it has all the shops you could possibly want, but retains its traditional character. Try to go to the beach on a clear day for the dramatic views of Arran. If you want to eat out, try Vito's - a really excellent Italian restaurant in the centre, in Burns Statue Square towards the station, and for a pub, try the Wee Windaes in Newmarket Street - friendly staff and good food.

“Harbourview”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2010

Have just spent a week at Harbourview with my elderly mother, son and dog and was most disappointed. This pppartment is not in a nice area. Harbourviw is a little misleading as you can not see the harbour from the window only a small section of the river looking across onto boarded up buildings. From the back uou look onto a car park. There was no nice walks to take my dog and my son was unable to play out as it was too busy. There were a lot of pubs nearby which were rather noisy in the evenings and I was awakened by alarms going of in the surrounding derilict buildings. The seafront was quiet a distance and beacause my mother is unable to walk to far I had to take the car which meant following the oneway system all around Ayr.

The appartment itself was nice enough inside although we had to wash the crockery before using it and the cupboards were full of previous occupants left over food, a lot of which was out of date,

On the plus side it was only a shor walk to the shops.

“Homely, comfortable, super 'customer service'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2010

We rented Woodcroft cottage as a family of 4 and my parents rented Stable Cottage which is attached,, my sister and her family of 5 rented Dairy Cottage just down the road.

The situation was perfect as the gardens are joined with a gate so we were able to easily cohabit between both properties, the children particularly enjoyed being able to 'pop-in' to see Grandma and Grandad without needing supervising. The gate was lockable though so if you went as a family of 4 there would be no issues with privacy.

The owner was on-site in a house within the same grounds as Woodcroft Cottage which was perfect when we needed advice on the local area or when we had questions. Mrs Hardie is a lovely warm friendly person who will help you in any way possible, you couldn't ask for a better proprietor.

The house itself is comfortable and homely and with a well equipped kitchen. The gardens are super and very well kept, a definite bonus for us as the weather was gorgeous for 7 days so we when we weren't at the beach or out we were in the garden. With ample seating and table area it was perfect for us.

The house is close enough to Ayr centre to be able to walk to the shops whilst at the same time in a quiet residential area. It is also only a 10 min walk to the beach and the large play area on the seafront.

If I had to give a down side to the property I would say it lacked television choice, only really a problem for us after 9pm when the children had gone to bed. Not sure if it would have been more of a problem if the weather had been bad at all. A Freesat box or a DVD player would be all that was needed.

I would definitely recommend this property if you prefer a comfortable cozy atmosphere where you can relax after a day on the beach or at 1 of the many attractions Ayr has to offer.
