We stayed at the DeVere with our daughter, her wife and parents-in-law who were from Long Island USA. We were very impressed with the hotel and all it's facilities. The breakfast, in particular, was excellent. The decor most impressive, especially the light fittings in the breakfast area !! The bedroom a tad on the dark side but very smart and modern. Very impressed with availability of iron and ironing board!! Was surprised we had to move the kettle on to the dressing table area due to lack of wall plug next to tray with tea/coffee making facilities. We were shocked our room wasn't made up til well into the afternoon. In fact, we were IN the room watching TV when the room had a 'cat lick' !!! The tea/coffee/sugar wasn't replenished. We were aware that there didn't appear to be enough cleaning staff. Our guests from Ametica were in the same position. Their plight was worse than ours as they were suffering from jet lag and needed an afternoon nap before attending their daughter's Wedding Reception in the evening at The Steam. The cleaning of the rooms, or rather lack of cleaning, spoilt, what was, a wonderful stay.

My first stay here and had high expectations! Great location for what we needed. Communal areas great and room looked lovely too. Only when it came to going to bed it was a nightmare - no air con (room was unbearably hot even with the fan on all night!). We had a room by the bar area so had to put up with that noise too!!!!!! Great place to have a family room!! Had dinner in the bar great service and good food. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff were very good - excellent. I would not choose to stay here again simply due to lack of sleep!! Tea etc was not refilled when room was cleaned. Had to move the kettle to reach the plug. I would suggest that a member of staff should stay in the room to see what it's like for guests. They definitely need to install aircon!!!

Dear Guest
Thank you for your Review, as a regular user of Trip Advisor we appreciate your comments.
I was pleased to read that despite no Air Conditioning you did enjoy your stay and I am sorry this along with the noise issue from other Guests caused you concern.

We do have Bedrooms with Air Conditioning but as the Hotel was Full at the week end these may not have been available at the time of your Booking.

Please dont let it put you off returning, drop me a line ahead of your next visit and we will allocate you a Room with Air Conditioning.

Best wishes
Andrew

My wife and I stayed there with a group from Belgium (coach trip to the Cotswolds) for three nights. Although the hotel isn't located in an all too nice environment (outside the city centre surrounded by the usual out-of-town coterie e.g. cinema, sports centre, take-away) no complaints about our stay. Large, nicely decorated clean room with most mod cons (no minibar, no safe however, and rather dark as a whole). We enjoyed three dinners there, for which we had three choices each time for starter/main/dessert. Very good food, and excellent service. Wellness area well-appointed too, unfortunately closing (very) early in the weekend. Breakfast is ok, nothing special. Good coffee though, served in a pot at your table. The bar is not the most likeable place (tables are too big for example to make it cosy), and staff can't keep up with orders. They seemed to keep running out of beer and other drinks all of the time. Still, the hotel is recommendable as a whole.

Stayed at this hotel for one night over Aug BH. On arrival we were told we were eligible for an upgrade and were allocated a Family Plus room, which was enormous.

We'd booked a 'deal' - breakfast and 3 course evening meal. Excellent value at £79. Breakfast was good, but dinner was exceptional. My husband's calamari starter was cooked to perfection - tender and coated with feather-light batter. Our mains and desserts were faultless in terms of value for money.

My only 'complaint' about this hotel is the decor - so o o dark. When the next re-fit is carried out, the stylists need to address this male orientated 'gloom-fest'. Practically, if you are staying on business and using wi-fi connected equipment, eye strain is inevitable. Charcoal grey walls and dark carpet. Bathroom, however, not so. I do hope they lighten the decor when next refurbing. Otherwise, it has to be full marks. Well done de Vere and a big thank you to all the friendly de Vere people that helped make this stay so enjoyable.

Room tip: Upgrade to Family Plus if possible.

Thanks for the comments on the Decor, this is something we are aware of. In our Standard Rooms it is a lighter Scheme and we will be reviewing this in the future.

Look forward to seeing you again and thanks.

I have been to this hotel several times with girlfriends but in May decided to visit with family, the day before we were due to go I was admitted to hospital, my sister rang the hotel to cancel the booking and spoke to a lovely lady called Anette, who I understand has since left, she very kindly offered (because we had pre paid) to move the booking, since then I had to move the booking another two times and this was done with no problems, so just for that thank you very much!
We had two rooms booked, I had requested the king rooms to be split into twins and to be in a quiet area, these email requests were responded to and carried out.
We used the pool and steam, we also had treatments in the spa, all good...
We didn't eat in the hotel but we used the bar and were served quickly and efficiently...
Good to see a familiar face to greet us at breakfast and the same lovely young man cooking the eggs, my husband says he does better poached eggs than most London hotels!
Thank you for another great visit Andrew and I am only sorry I didn't see you in person to thank you...
