We spent two nights at the Crowne Plaza in Manchester in a room with Club lounge access.
We could not fault the hotel. It really was a great place to stay. The staff are cheerful and helpful (except for one grumpy bar staffer, but he will be the exception that proves the rule!) and willing to stop and have a chat.
The rooms are modern and the black, red and white decore may not be to everyone's taste. However, the king sized bed (in the executive rooms) and modern bathroom are great. The room has everything you would expect from a new hotel with a large flat-screen tv and free wi-fi.
I would recommend upgrading your room to access the club lounge where there are free drinks at any time (and free alcoholic drinks and canapes between certain hours) and a quiet place to have a continental breakfast. If you'd prefer a hot breakfast, the cafe next door has reasonable and cheap food as mentioned by many other reviewers. There's also a convenience store right next door. Also, as mentioned by other, parking is in a nearby NCP carpark - however, there's a bay in front of the hotel where you can stop and unload your baggage from the car.

The hotel is located in the up-and-coming Northern Quarter. Shops and cafes surrounding the hotel are a mix of trendy and eclectic. The streets tend to go: a trendy shop, followed by a boarded up shop, followed by a trendy cafe, followed by a delrelict building! But it's all interesting and the Arts and Crafts centre is worth a visit. There's a chinese restaurant around the corner that's also modern with good value food.
One block down from the hotel is the Arndale Centre for all your high-street shopping needs. From there it's a short walk into the centre of town for shops, pubs and Manchester's own "eye".
All-in-all the hotel is well worth a visit and a cheaper alternative to the new Hilton.More
