Lovely clean modern hotel, connected by a bridge outside the main station and still easy walking distance to the shopping centre. Ours was a bright room, only a small window opened but the air conditioning was effective so not a problem. Staff really friendly and human so were able to have a laugh with them.

What a nice surprise. In a country where the service is so varied it's good to find a place that exceeds expectations! The hotel was modern and was spotlessly clean. A lot of other hotels in Manchester looked very tired - from the outside anyway... The room had a very comfortable bed, quiet and functional air conditioning, decent shower pressure, nice toiletries, free bottled water, a powerpoint next to the bed for phone charging... all the little things that people take for granted! There was also a fully functional iMac which was also used as a TV/Radio which was a nice surprise. I didn't take breakfast as it wasn't included in the room rate and I slept in.

Service was excellent. I was presented with a fresh warm cookie which was a great welcome. Elizabeth at the front desk was extremely friendly and professional and did everything perfectly - and she was only a trainee! I wouldn't have known if she hadn't been wearing a "trainee" badge. I hope her hard work is recognised and she is rewarded!

The hotel is directly across from Piccadilly station so perfect if you're arriving or departing by train. There is no noise from outside as the windows are double glazed and no noise from neighbouring rooms as the rooms are soundproofed. The hotel is also walking distance to the main city centre (Manchester's city centre is quite compact) and very close to the Canal street area if you want to go out for a drink and dance!

We chose the Doubletree for the first and last nights of our vacation. We arrived by air in Manchester and took the train from the airport to the Piccadilly Station. The hotel is a block from the station along a pedestrian mall so the convenience factor could not be better.

The property is very new and very modern in style and appointments. By U.S. standards the rooms are not large but they meet European/British standards and they are quite comfortable. The hotel maintains a "Hilton Honors" floor for those who are members of this program and the rooms on that floor have extra touches such as bath robes. My room was a corner room and the corner was all glass so from my chair I had an excellent view over the Victorian architecture which is a hallmark of Manchester.

In the States it is the usual practice to be told that your credit card will be "kept on file" to cover any incidental charges but at the DoubleTree Piccadilly I was told that the sum of fifty pounds would be set aside with the unspent balance to be credited back to my card on checkout. I found this to be a helpful practice since one might need a reminder of what is being spent at restaurants, bars, etc.

I found the staff helpful, courteous, and alert at all times, including the six A.M. hour at which I checked out of the hotel to catch my flight home.

For both quality and convenience I recommend this property.

Room tip: Be sure to identify yourself as a Hilton Honors member if you belong to the program. You will have a dedicated check-in line and a room with extra touches.

On arrival we were presented with a warm cookie which was much appreciated after a 4 hour journey which should have only took an hour and a half. Check in was pleasant and efficient. The room although smaller than what I expected, contained everything you would possibly need for a weekend stay, but the wonderful touch of a card and cake wishing us a happy anniversary was a lovely surprise. After having a bite to eat and a drink in the bar we returned to our room where we were presented with a glass of champagne each. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty on both days. The metro tram station was closeby if you didn't fancy the walk into the city centre. Overall I would say that the hotel is extremely well organised and has very attentive staff. Thank you.

My wife and I stayed for two nights for our anniversary in July. We were welcomed by Elizabeth, an absolute credit to the hotel. When I booked the hotel. I was unable to state it was for our anniversary, however when I mentioned it at check in, we were presented with a free drinks voucher along with the doubletree cookie (Delicious!!)! We were checked in within a few minutes during which Elizabeth made us both feel extremely welcome and it was quite obvious that nothing was too much trouble.

We arrived in our room, which was very clean and spacious with an iMac TV. No sooner had we put our clothes away when we had a knock at the door. The hotel had sent us both a card and a glass of champagne to celebrate... this was a great start to our weekend!

The bars have very attentive staff and they have great cocktails... personal favourites were "The Cookie" Cocktail and the Singapore Sling.

As for location, it is a short walk to all the shops and bars and right on the doorstep of Piccadilly train station.

We ate in the City Restaurant for breakfast. The food was great and again very attentive staff. If you wanted something other than the buffet breakfast, it was no trouble... omelettes, fried eggs etc. you just had to ask.

Check out was as quick as check in and that included signing up to HHonors.

All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel and even more so if you are celebrating a special occasion.

Room tip: We stayed in a queen room that was very spacious.
