“A comfortable affordable week in Fontainebleu”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

We spent 6 days at Aigle Noir Hotel visiting our family. The reception staff was uniformly friendly. Requests for extra towels, advice about a local community swimming pool and recommendations for restaurants were all handled promptly, professionally and in English. The buffet breakfast is a good value if you enjoy a large breakfast. If a croissant and expresso is more your style you are better off at any of the cafes on Rue Grande. The hallways are becoming shabby with peeling paint and fraying wallpaper. Our room was in better shape and large for French hotels. The bed was excellent; the ventilation efficient and quiet. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and we would gladly return the Aigle Noir.

“Comfort at reasonable prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

Having left accommodation bookings to the last minute, whilst on vacation with three children, we chanced upon the hotel via the internet and we couldn't have been more satisfied for the 240 euros we spent for the night. Though we obviously ended up in the older wing of the hotel, (evidenced by sagging floors in the corridors), the place was immaculately presented. We were accommodated in a very spacious two-roomed suite, over looking the main entrance and front public mall. Bathrooms very clean. The staff were exceptionally helpful, giving practical reccommendations of nearby places to dine and available local activities, and not charging for the extra third bed we required. The location of the hotel is very handy, adjacent to the Fontainbleau Palace, in the town centre and only a two minute jog to the extensive park were you can circumnavigate a 4.5km walk/jog amongst an impressive pond and arboretum. Breakfast was buffet-style, with an ample range of cooked to continental selection. Would recommend it as launch point being only 1 hour by car into the centre of Paris.

“excellent place to stay”

We were driving through Fontainebleau on our way to Paris and were too tired to go any further. The town was packed with a conference, so the first hotel we checked for vacancy was booked. We decided to just check the Aigle Noir before driving on. Walking in, the entrance and lobby are so charming, I assumed the rates wouldn't be in our budget. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and were very patient with my french. The gentleman working the desk kindly offered a "last-minute deal" that included a room for my husband and I and our two young sons as well as breakfast the next morning. The two-room suite was beautiful, opening onto the quiet courtyard. And the price was better than the budget option that had no vacancy! My husband and I were able to use the wifi to work after putting the little guys to bed, and in the morning, the breakfast was great. I highly recommend staying here -- the staff was really wonderful, the room was beautiful, and we left wanting to come back.

“Too pricey for an average room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

The hotel lobby area and bar were very nice and the hotel itself does have a certain charm. However for the price we paid we were dissappointed with our room. The wallpaper and the furniture was lovely but the room we had was very tired. The bathroom was horrible, it just felt very old and tired with the shower itself broken and rust everywhere. The paint in the bathroom and separate toilet was coming off the wall.
Overall it was average. Great location, lovely hotel and staff but the room let it down, which is a shame because it could be fantastic.
