We had just visited the Pont Valentré and were walking back into Cahors when we passed Chez Garrigue. The set 13 euro menu for the day was: soup, gésiers (chicken or duck gizzards) salad, duck stew with pommes rissoles (lightly roasted potatoes), cheese, dessert and a bottle of vin ordinaire between the 4 or us.
The soup tureen was placed on the table and we served ourselves – cream of vegetable with croutons.
We asked if 2 of us could have the salad without gésiers. No problem! We were given salad with smoked salmon - delicious (and apparently the gésiers were excellent as well.)
The duck with potatoes was served on a serving platter and we helped ourselves – a very good idea because some of us were already feeling quite full.
Next a cheese board was left with us and finally we were given a choice of 3 desserts or a selection of ices or sorbets.
The wine was very acceptable and the service excellent. Our water jug and bread basket were replaced as soon as needed and the waitress was extremely friendly despite the fact that the restaurant was full – all other diners appeared to be local, many of them “workers”. We dined in the shaded outside area but could equally have eaten indoors.
I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and will definitely return!
