We had the best time at Maison Trevier! You could not ask for a better host in Gina. We spent 15 days in France for our belated honeymoon; the first week was in Paris and the second in Southern France. Paris, while elegant and exciting, could not compete with our time in the southern Rhone Valley. It was truly relaxing there. Our three nights with Gina were the most memorable of our trip. We took cooking classes, wine tours, stone-cutting tours... you name it, we did it! At the same time, we had plenty of down time to simply relax, read our books and sip wine. We had the privilege of being the only guests at the time the courtyard was being renovated (can`t wait to try out the new pool!), and had Gina`s full attention. She was so helpful and almost everything we did was by her advice. Gina would map out whole days of activities for us. We enjoyed our time with Gina so much, we even met up with her after leaving Maison Trevier.
Carpentras has a wealth of culture and activities, including a great farmer`s market once a week. It`s also centrally located in the southern Rhone Valley wine region where day trips to Gigondas, Mt. Ventoux, Bedoin, Beaumes-de-Venice, Crillon-le-Brave, and L`Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (for shopping) were planned last minute but were still very easy. If you`re up for a longer drive, take a few hours and venture to the Mediterranean (e.g., Aigues-Mortes, Le Grau-du-Roi) for oysters and white wine...
Our next trip is to Spain and Portugal but we will without doubt slip over to Carpentras to have a glass of wine and head cheese with Gina. She is truly a French Classic and we miss her plenty!
