My husband and I stayed at Maison Trevier for two nights this summer as a departure point for a visit to the Mount Ventoux leg of the Tour de France. The hotel itself is just lovely - homey and yet elegant, akin to staying at a wealthy aunt's family home. Our room was extremely large, with views overlooking the garden and Mount Ventoux in the distance.
Gina, the owner, is obviously about the details. She has an eclectic mix of modern artwork (which we loved) tastefully placed throughout the hotel, which blends beautifully with building's architecture and not distracting from the sense of being in the Provence.
We had booked dinner the night of our arrival - which was casually served at the large wooden table in the garden. We started with an organic unfiltered Rose, which I am still pining for today. After relaxing for a bit in the garden, we sat down to a simple Provencal soup au pistou, masterfully prepared by Gina herself. As a well travelled foodie, I can tell you, it was superior. To follow was, what can I say, by far, the best goat cheese I've ever tasted (!!) and a perfectly ripe and sweet melon. Our evening ended with an infused fennel tea picked right from the garden. What a lovely dinner, thank you Gina!
Gina, herself, is fun, feisty and an exceptionally gifted cook. Although we did not spend much time in Carpentras itself, I will tell you that I will return to cook with Gina while my husband climbs Mount Ventoux. I will also add that we met some really wonderful people while we were there - mostly cyclists as the tour was in full swing, but it made the experience even more worthwhile.
All in all, A+. Highly recommended and book some time with Gina in the kitchen. We brought home with us a jar of her homemade melon confiture which is something you won't find anywhere but at Maison Trevier.
