We really lucked out on our night in Flensburg and the Central-Hotel. It was the one night of our trip we didn't have a hotel reservation since we weren't sure of our agenda and route for the day. I was just hoping for a clean, safe place for us to stay with our two teenagers. Instead, we experienced a charming city where we would have loved to spend more time and a wonderful hotel. We had a room that was perfect for us which was actually two rooms. A small room for the kids (with a door separating us!) and a larger room for us with the bathroom. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was excellent. It was a very short walk to the center of this harbor town, which was quite extensive. It had some great old churches and buildings, an extensive pedestrian shopping area, excellent but casual and inexpensive restaurants on the harbor, a maritime museum with many old ships in the harbor and even a pirate festival while we were there! Flensburg has a great atmosphere and also has several castles in the area - both on the German and Danish sides. We would have liked to stay longer but our schedule didn't allow it. It was one of the gems of our trip.
