This 300 year old hotel is decorated in a very modern, yet tasteful style. The rooms are beautiful, large and very confortable. The location, well, what can I say, is where it needs to be. The restaurant is excellent and the bar/lounge is pretty and fun. Breakfast is out of this world, especially their omellets. Staff is genuine and makes you feel very welcome and very much at ease.

The hotel is attractive inside and out, but a little more thought for guests would make a big difference. The room was big with lots of storage space and windows opening over the outdoor section of the restaurant. The problem with that is that 5:45am is the hour someone chose to drag the tables and chairs into place for the breakfast service (not included in rate). "Service" in the bar or at the bar tables out front involved searching for someone to pour something, then searching again to pay.
The location is good for a walking tour of the town, and a food market sets up in the square.

We stayed here recently and I would recommend a visit a visit to Weimar and if you are a westerner going to Weimar then chances are you are a history or culture buff and then I would highly recommend Elephant because of it's great location and interesting history.

Statues of Alma Mahler and Walter Gropius are on the front balcony and the hotel itself is situated on the old town market square, which is quite small.

Our room was nice, clean and had art and modern furniture.

breakfast was not included in the room I booked and at twenty euros was a bit much but we found some lovely breakfast places very close by.

Staff were fluent in English and very helpful at the hotel.
Wi fi is not free at this hotel....which is kind of annoying.

I recommend brushing up on basic German-- just to be polite, but you will need it if you go to Weimar. My experience was that English was very limited in restaurants and shops....I think this is a very popular destination/ cultural pilgrimmage for predominantly German tourists.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Elephant in Weimar. The hotel has a proud history as a cultural centre in the city of Goethe and Schiller; but it was also a Nazi base during WW2. Both facts are the subject of a lobby display. As a hotel today, it is centrally situated, has charming staff and very comfortable rooms. We enjoyed a free upgrade. Dinner at the gourmet restaurant was excellent, with a tasting menu accompanied by wines and an attentive sommelier a veritable feast. Breakfasts were excellent too. Only downside was fiddly internet access, for which they charge.
