“Simply the best”

As the year comes to an end we are reflecting on what we have enjoyed most. Top billing has to go to our visit in May to Liguria and in particular the wonderful hospitality we experienced at Il Borgo di Genova. We can't speak too highly of the warmth of the welcome we received from Giovanni and Alessandra. They are a charming couple and so informative and helpful. The house is beautifully restored, comfortable and exceptionally clean. Breakfast is well presented, fresh and the home-made cake a particular hit. Genova is a wonderful base for a holiday and a fascinating city in its own right; enhanced by such a lovely B & B. There are steep steps up tp the upper floor but before we could blink Giovanni had whisked our bags up them -- and we don't travel light. Thanks to both for such a lovely stay.

“Wonderful B&B...perfect hosts.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

I stayed at Il Borgo di Genova in early June this year. Alessandra and Giovanni were absolutely wonderful from the initial stages of planning my stay with them to the day of my departure. They made me feel like I was a family member coming to visit. I stayed my last two nights of 18 in Italy with them and felt comfortable from the beginning. I was traveling alone and Alessandra was very helpful in providing information to me as it related to safety. The B&B was immaculately clean and perfectly decorated. I slept like a baby in my beautiful and extremely comfortable room.

When I first booked my reservation, I was a bit concerned with getting to the B&B from the train station as I'd never been to Genoa before. Alessandra assured me it was close and safe to the B&B and it was. Giovanni was so helpful taking my VERY heavy luggage up the stairs and put them at the door on the last night of my stay so that I wouldn't have to be concerned with it the next morning. I didn't even have to ask...it was their suggestion.

I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Genoa.

“B&B with personal touch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

We can only agree with all the previous reviews, this is an absolute top B&B!
Why? Because of the good atmosphere, how well we were received upon arrival, the detailed recommendations we got for city viewing and eating out, the cleanliness, the great home-made cake at breakfast, the quality of the mattress, and how the rooms have been carefully renovated with attention to authentic details.
Highly recommended (unless you are unable to negotiate some stairs).

“Stay here and enjoy local life.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Giovanni and Alessandra's B & B is located very close to the railway station as well as buses, so it is easy to get to and get around. The B & B has certainly raised the profile of the local area and the residents should be proud to welcome newcomers to their area and enjoy the increase to their businesses.
The area where il Borgo is located is very safe. There is a Carrefour supermarket close by as well as pizza places. There are several small restaurants around and in the same street as the B & B. Giovanni will give you his recommendations. You can purchase bus tickets at two places near by - Giovanni will direct you to them.
The well polished (by Giovanni every morning) brass fittings to the entry door is an inkling of what lies behind that door. Giovanni will meet you at the door once you ring the door bell and will carry your baggage up the long and narrow staircase. The old building has been lovingly renovated by Giovanni and Alessandra. Alessandra even did the drawings on the tiles in the bathrooms. The rooms are small and very clean as are the bathrooms. The bedrooms could do with some better lighting. We stayed in the room right next to the breakfast room. The beds are very comfortable. There is a small desk and wardrobe in the room. Wifi is available if you need it.
Breakfast should be looked forward to because of the variety of foods and the wonderful coffee that Giovanni makes. Alessandra's cakes are excellent. Make sure you try the foccacia - it is a local speciality and very different to the dry and horrible bread that is passed off as foccacia in Australia.
You can walk through the pedestrian tunnel to get to the bus stand or to walk along the main street where there are lots of interesting shops and gelateria including Groms.
You can also take the bus from the main street outside the B & B to the Port area and then walk through the old town. It is also easy to visit nearby towns such as Camogli for the day by train and then go on to Portafino and Santa Margaretha.
We definately recommend this place to stay in Genova and hope that we see Giovanni and Alessandra when they visit Australia.

“Delightful hosts & accomidation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011 via mobile

Giovanni & Alessandra's knowledge of Genova is invaluable. Suggestions for restaurants with the local specialities were delicious.
The previous reviews are spot on- we enjoyed Giovanni's passion for his renovation work & Alessandra's cakes were delicious.
Highly recommend.
