“Nice but overpriced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 April 2011

The Einstein is a very nice, comfortable hotel that is well-situated near all the sights/shops of St. Gallen, as well as within walking distance to the main train station. Service was cordial but reserved. The "comfort" rooms are indeed comfortable and a reasonable size, with flat screen TV on the wall (includes a few English stations beyond just CNN as well as the usual Swiss/German/Italian channels) and good soundproof windows. The bathroom was compact but renovated and had a great shower. All in all, I had a very pleasant stay. However, given the prices they charge for normal room rates, I would expect a bit more in the way of amenities. To be honest, there was nothing more than one would find a typical good hotel chain in the US and breakfast was 25CHF per person on top of an already overpriced room cost. Considering this hotel is in a smallish city, I was surprised at how expensive it was, even for Switzerland. While a perfectly nice place to stay, maybe worth looking at other options around town for similar quality at a lower price.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back to avoid church bells!

“Beautifully presented hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

Beautiful hotel with a really clean impression given through the quality of fittings and fixtures. The bedroom was smallish but the linen and marble gave a lovely sense of style and cleanliness. The only minus was that the room was very warm on the first night and the window was left open to let i some air, which resulted in a bad night of sleep because of the THREE different sets of church bells that went off on the hour every hour. Closing the window on the second night proved an excellent sound dampener.

“excellent first class hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2009

We stayed in a superior room, which looked brand new. It was of adequate size, airy and modern, without being over-stylish. High ceilings, high quality wooden furniture and a marble bathroom were absolutely first class. The view over the rooftops was lovely (ask for a room on one of the top floors!). I haven't seen the standart rooms, but I guess that these are older and that it's worth to spend the extra for a superior room. Breakfast room under the roof is charming, breakfast itself about what you can expect from a 4star andnothing extraordinary. In autumn they will open a new spa/fitness zone and conference centre, which will even improve the hotel.
The only thing we didn't like were the churchbells of the nearby cathedral. They rang for about 10 min. without interruption at 6 am - no way to stay asleep! But I cannot fault the hotel for this...

“Nice,a little bit old but with a lot of charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2009

Situated in one of the most charming swiss town, the Einstein has something old fashion, pleasant and charming.
Situated along the old town, within five minutes walking distance from the main train station, the hotels offers pleasant old fashion rooms with a good comfort. The single room is well furnished except the lack of a safe box which is one of the basis furniture for a for stars hotel.
The bathroom, very clean, offers everything you hopes. The breakfeast room under the roof, is pleasant and the quality of the breakfast is very good with a good variety of dishes.
The staff is polite and sympathetic.
A good value for the price.

“Love this hotel, love this town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2008

This Hotel sits at the top of the old town of St Gallen. Its a luxury hotel without losing its old world atmosphere and friendly feel. The staff a friendly and helpful, and have a sweet sense of humour. More than just polite and efficient. The rooms are spacious, and we had a gorgeous view over the street that was very convenient for viewing the Soap Box Derby, and for attending the street party that followed.
Just trot down the hill and you have an plentiful choice of restaurants and shops. For sights you can't beat the village and the superb Abbey the like of which I have seen nowhere else in Europe (or anywhere). Check out the medieval library for another awe inspiring experience.
Or walk up the hill to see the waterfall then follow it down to take a dip in the mineral baths. I love this town so much I want to move here. Seriously.
