“A memorable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

Spent 3 relaxing nights at the welcoming Hotel Estherea. Though we had a very early morning arrival time, the hotel staff gladly accepted our luggage to free us to take a long walk along the canals. By the time we returned we were able to access our room several hours before the official check-in time so that we could change our clothes and regroup after our trans-Atlantic flight, a courtesy we very much appreciated.
Our room was on the small side, but beautifully decorated. It faced the courtyard (no canal view rooms were available) and was very quiet. We especially loved the orchid-filled lobby and the 24 hr. coffee/tea/hot chocolate service. It was a pretty spot to sit and look at the canal and have a drink. We ate our breakfast a la carte, and everything was delicious and served elegantly.
The location of the hotel is nearly perfect. You can easily walk with a suitcase from the train station, and to many fine restaurants and cultural sites. If given the opportunity, I would definitely return.

Room Tip: We appreciated having a room on the second floor as we could easily walk up and not have to wait on...

“lovely hotel quiet location”

I stayed here before getting the early train back to the UK . I had been working elsewhere, and had a night in Amsterdam.

The hotel is on a quiet canal. My room overlooked the canal, with good views. The room was quite big, compared to what I had heard about hotels in Amsterdam. Stairs were fine, not like a loft ladder, as some are. The room was well furnished, if a bit chintzy and dark, but otherwise great, very clean, great shower and bathroom, really comfortable bed.

Free internet in the lobby area, also a bonus.

I didnt eat there, so cannot comment, but the concierge was really helpful in finding me a good Italian restaurant nearby. I got a taxi there, but I realised that its close to the Central Station, so for my return, I got the concierge to describe the walking route to me, which he did.

Overall, nice stay, cannot fault it.

“Very cosy hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

We would definitely return to this hotel. We had a Classic room (smallest and cheapest) and it was perfectly decorated, comfortable and very clean.
We loved the public areas too i.e. library, lounge and bar. We did not have breakfast at the hotel as we did not want to pay 18 euros apiece (though there is a Pain Quotidien behind the hotel on Spuistraat).
The free tea / coffee / cappuccino / hot chocolate was very welcome. This hotel was well placed for exploring the city on foot.

“Perfect location, perfect trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

Wheeling my suitcase from Centraal Station through Dam Square, I wasn't impressed with Amsterdam and thought it lived up to its seedy reputation. However, as soon as we turned the corner and hit the Singel canal I knew I had made the right choice booking Hotel Estherea. This is the perfect location, peaceful and quiet while in walking distance to the restaurants at Spuistraat, Anne Frank house, Dam Square, the flower market, and major metro stops (Spui, Dam).

The hotel is charming and the rooms beautifully decorated. Typical of most boutique hotels, some rooms are small--my husband and I had a small room and were perfectly happy, my dad and his girlfriend had more space. Everything was extremely clean and the hotel staff were helpful and friendly.

If you're looking to visit Amsterdam mainly for the coffee shops and the red-light district (10 minutes walking--we did both), this is probably not the right hotel. But to experience the beauty and history of Amsterdam, I would highly recommend Hotel Estherea.

“friendly, welcoming, great experience”

Just returned from Hotel Estherea, and found the experience wonderful..From the moment we arrived and discovered we had an up graded "canal view " room,(414) the outlook was good!
The staff were friendly and very willing to help, give directions etc. We also returned to our room to find complimentary prosecco and chocolates for a birthday treat, and the next day 14th february we got Valentine treats left in our room...Rooms were very clean, the cooked breakfasts were great and there was also a large variety of fresh fruit, fresh breads, meats, cheese et al. The 24hour coffee machine was fantastic and the quality great, offering huge selection of coffee, tea and drinking chocolate.
The beds were comfortable and we slept very well.
Situated on one of the prettiest canals in Amsterdam and close to Dam Square, and twelve minutes to central station, we were able to walk everywhere with ease.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, and I certainly will stay again.
As a footnote, we took a trip to Haarlem, 15 mins on the train, lovely town, well worth a visit, especially the tour around CorrieTen Boom museum, which was free and the local tour guides passionate about their subject, for me a more moving experience than Anne Frank..
